I found someone with 'Pink' as a surname

While trying to ensure that I wasn’t doubling up on my discussions, I came across a post from 2016 talking about a botanist named Olive Pink. Recently the topic of ‘surnames of colour’ came up but I think Pink was one of those that didn’t seem to exist. However, it does but fancy calling a child ‘Olive’ when the surname is ‘Pink’. If you’re interested, you can search for ‘Olive Pink’ and the post will come up. Olive Pink was a fierce campaigner for aboriginal rights and also established a botanical garden of sorts near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. She planted a great many plants and named them after prominent people. If she fell out with those people, she would cease to water ‘their’ plant. Not a lady to be messed with it seems. The photo is mine taken in the area around Alice Springs

Pink is "rosa" in Italian and we had even famous people with this surname. Salvator Rosa is one who comes to my mind, an Italian Baroque painter. Ercole Rosa was a sculptor.

Rosa doesn't sound as strange for a surname as Pink but perhaps it does to Italians.

@JudyEv - It does not sound really strange to Italians, may be because rosa is a colour but also a flower (rose).

Awhile ago, I was listening to a preacher online. That preacher made a reference to another preacher named Arthur C Pink. I am pretty sure I got the middle initial right.

I worked with a guy years ago whose first name was Red. His last name was blue but spelled Bleu. Parents sometimes give their children some pretty crazy names.

I guess they thought it was funny at the time. I know a guy called Sunshine Joy. And I knew a lady who when she married became Taylor Mayde.

@moffittjc I hope she didn't marry someone called Winter. I wonder if people ever thing about the impact these names might have on their children. The Taylor Mayde lady didn't want to give me her full name but I needed it for a certificate. That was her married name so just a bit unfortunate I guess if you didn't happen to like it. Nowadays people might be more inclined to keep their own name when they married but it didn't happen very often back then.

I’ve not ever known of anyone with the last name of Pink. I did know a girl in school with the last name of orange, I have not ever known of any with that name other than her.

@JudyEv I wrote something about a unique first name. You made me remember it. I didn't somehow find it unusual because I know some people around me name their child Pink. Because it's their favorite color or because it's baby girl.

Tracy Jane had one too. Wal Pink. Now all we need is to find a Yellow. I am going to ask Chat GPT if that is actually used as a surname.

Was Pink A bad name. American Manly men, hate pink. There is old sayings like yellow, but what if you pink? Yellow being cowardly and pink meaning gay I guess, unless you a women. What happens when a lady calls herself Pink? And a punk rock manly dude comes in and helps her win a Grammy? These my favorite stories. His only two Grammies, helping Pink and Jimmie Cliff a Reggae Dude,. never his music, but they saw how neat he was in helping others. That has to be one of the neatest stories in all of the world, but because he is punk rock no one wants to tell it. I hope I did not kill what you were trying to do, but its what it made me think about. My point is we need to find someone who can bring the coolest things to light.

It would make you feel better I guess to watch the plant slowly die. It wouldn't have suited my Mum. She never liked to let any plant die.

Ariel Pink comes to mind. He’s known for pop and nostalgia music and is 47 years old. I believe there is an author with that surname, too.

There is a men's clothes shop called Thomas Pink, in the UK. Wonder if it is a real name or just the marketing ploy?
