Do you love your job or are you doing it for the money? Some people really enjoy their jobs whether they are well paid or not, yet others are miserable but continue to stay in their career because leaving would result in less income. One gets accustomed to the things a substantial salary can afford, so even though "burned out" or mistreated by their employer they remain. I'm sure that is just one of many reasons people stay put and take no action in changing their circumstances. Which brings me to my question for today, how do you feel about your job situation...happy or not and why? If you are now retired, were you happy in the career direction you took, or do you regret not seeking another job field? *** A SECOND QUESTION: Can you also think of any other reasons why a person remains with the same employer their entire career? Maybe these reasons might have pertained to you. Anyway, for me I did not pursue a career in teaching for the money obviously. Back when I was employed teachers were not paid well at all, so it was a love of the profession not income that influenced my choice. I don't regret the decision as I had many exciting and rewarding experiences working with children. So, how about you? Care to share your experiences...

@dgobucks226 I was making good money 3 miles from home. My husband kept telling me to find another job. Why? Great money - 3 miles....What's not to like?

That's great. Other reasons people stay in their jobs: -Fear of the unknown -Job perks and benefits -Learning new things is hard and they may not be motivated to start over

For the past weeks I am contemplating to apply to another field. I am thankful for the work that I currently have but sometimes there are down times. In the past weeks my emotions had been playing me that it does affect my work. I am praying that someday or one day soon I will be able to find myself again.

I can understand. Over time work you were excited about in the beginning may turn into a grind lacking personal satisfaction and leading to boredom or even worse, a dislike for your job environment. Some reasons people to remain even though they are miserable where they are: -Learning new things is hard and they may not be motivated to start over -Fear of the unknown

That's great! It's sad for those stuck in a job they dislike. Other reasons people stay in their jobs: -Fear of the unknown -Maybe they don't want to disappoint their parents and be looked upon as a failure -They live a lifestyle which have put themselves in debt and can't escape

@dgobucks226 I agree that those reasons do qualify for someone staying in a job they dislike.

All my life I have worked with children. This is the only work I can do well and enjoy . Can't think of any other job even for a larger salary.

Working with kids provides a different kind of wealth. Good for you that you chose something you really enjoyed regardless of the money. Some people get trapped into a job they hate. Other reasons people stay in their jobs: -Fear of the unknown -Job perks and benefits -Some people just love to complain -Maybe they don't want to disappoint their parents and be looked upon as a failure

i mean, this job field is similar to what i graduated from college just, i wish i could have a job where people's interaction is at the lowest like ,working in a library but i need to study again and i can't afford paying another college degree so, not happening.

I understand. Having to learn something new by returning to college again would be difficult.
