This certainly wasn’t planned, but it’s so appropriate that this song shows up on the list today. My dear mother of blessed memory loved this song, and today would have been her birthday. So this one’s for you, Mom. Here’s today’s song that’s now 40 years old. #4: Let’s Talk Dirty in Hawaiian - John Prine When my mom first heard this song, she roared with laughter. She had me play it for my aunt (who had a similar reaction). After that, every time — and I do mean every time — I took my mom somewhere, I had to play this song on the iPod when she first got in my car. Twice. And what’s not to love? Prine had a great sense of humor to go with the depth and introspection that could turn out songs like “Sam Stone” and “Hello in There.” He makes this just risqué enough without being obscene to make everyone chuckle. After all, they sell t-shirts at the airport that say, “I got lei’d in Hawaii.” So enjoy this humorous trip to Waikiki. My mom always loved to go.
