One of our local stores has got a special offer on a vacuum seal machine.
I have thought about this before but have not yet bought one.
So, I am looking for advice ….the pros and cons, your thoughts.
Do you have a vacuum pack machine ?
Is it worth it ?
What do you vacuum pack ?
What should you not vacuum pack ?
Thanks in advance everyone …..

I've seen them and think they are a good idea but I've yet to buy one. I really don't know if I would get as much use out of it .

We are on our second one and I like them. When we buy larger quantities of meat in particular, I package it up into smaller portions and vacuum-seal them. I don't know if it's better than just wrapping things well before freezing but I like the fact that it extracts all the air. You'd have to think that was a good thing.

There’s only me at home during the week so I was thinking vacuum packing meat I could freeze it and it would last longer . I don’t like waste.

@Traceyjayne The fact that we replaced the old one says something I guess.

When it comes right down to it, I don’t need it. It’s a luxury to me, and I can think of necessities that need my attention. That being said, you have more elaborate meals than I do, and you cook for more people. It really might make sense for you. But also, look around. If your kitchen is cluttered, and you already have appliances you don’t use, just skip it.

Im not sure I have more elaborate meals really
I think I have decided not to have one. I'm not sure I would get the use from it.

I've never tried vacuum-packing foods so I can't help you.

I've never tried nor even thought about vacuum packing foods. I guess it could be a good idea if you bought something like cheese in bulk for example, then you could portion it up and vacuum seal some, you wouldn't need to freeze it (which is what I usually do with extra) so it would save freezer space. And if you did use it for things to freeze it would protect them from 'freezer burn' and the dehydration they can suffer if they're in there for a long time and you have a frost-free freezer.
What are you thinking of using it for?

@Traceyjayne So would you then freeze them as well, or just store in the fridge or room temperature?

I bought one but never used it. It's a good idea for many applications. Foods that go into the freezer will last longer if vacuum packed.
