This is something that has always really bugged me
I don't have twins and it's nothing to do with me what other people do anyway ....I know it's their choice
However ..... I really don't like seeing twins dressed alike.
There, I've said it .
I don't think it looks cute or fun ....
I do think ....
1. It makes it harder to tell them apart and I know from experience that children get very frustrated and upset if people have to keep asking which one they are ...
2. It doesn't give them a sense of independence , self worth , identity and being a person in their own right
Just my thoughts ..
What do you think ....would you dress twins alike ?

We do have a set of twins in our family.
They are only 4 years old and they WANT to be dressed alike, so they are.
Everything from toys to clothing to arts and craft supplies is bought in duplicate.
That is what they like and that is what they get.
Their hair differs, one is wavy and the other is more curly, and naturally they need to wear different hair styles to suit their hair texture.
They have first cousins who are twins, and are 8 or 9 years older, and they sometimes dress differently and sometimes the same.

Nope. It was frustrating enough when I'd say my name and the person I was talking with only caught the last name and would ask "Which one are you?" all the time. It was annoying and I was tempted to give them one of my brothers' names just to screw with them but I never did. I just kept telling them, "I'm DE." and go on with the conversation.

@Traceyjayne Almost every day. People always knew mom and dad but had no idea which kid was which.

I can understand that .
Coming from such a large family of many brothers I guess you got that a lot.

@DaddyEvil There are four acting brothers here and my Mom always is asking me " which one is that ?" Whenever she watches something that they are in.
To me they are similar but not that alike that I can't tell the difference, but then again , having spent so many years in my job you learn to tell differences/recognise people quite quickly

I never gave it much thought, but I have wondered what age twins got before they started to protest. I know two sets of twins, but I came to know them when they were teens, and already dressing themselves however they wanted. I DID, however, once run into a set of twins in their early twenties. They were dressed exactly alike. That being said, I have no idea if there was a particular reason since it really was just a brief encounter.

@AmbiePam working in a school I have worked with many sets of twins, some have been dressed alike and some not. I have always found those not dressed a like are generally happier and get on with things. The ones dressed alike ( apart from one case I remember ), disliked it and wanted to be seen as a person in their own right .....they also get fed up having to tell people which one they are all the time.
When I was at secondary school there was a set of twins a few years older who had the same hair styles etc ...I see them sometimes as adults ....now in early 60's and they still dress alike ....I have to say I find that a bit creepy !

@Traceyjayne Now that you say that, dressing alike at a substantially older age is kind of creepy. Kind of like they can’t let go of their childhood.

I probably would on occasions but I would not have it enforced. Kids develop autonomy when you let them pick their clothes no matter how ridiculous it can be. But dressing them the same can be a fun experience too. But definitely not on a daily basis. I don’t think it is healthy.

@Traceyjayne I think for both. When I was in high school we had 3 sets of twins at once in school and they don’t dress alike all the time but they do like confusing people.

I've never thought about it. Some people dress kids alike when they're not twins.

@JudyEv... Yes I had a friend and older sister who were often dressed alike for parties etc. My friend loved it as she wanted to be like her sibling. Her older sister, however, hated it as she was three years older than her sister and didn't want to be thought of as someone younger ...she wanted to be more grown up. ( She admitted this to my friend when they were adults )

Some twins WANT to dress alike. I would give them the option to do so.
