Would you endorse an “embarrassing” product?

Not too long ago a semi well known actress in America was in a commercial for a product made for someone whose bladder was “iffy”. She’s in her forties, and has said she doesn’t actually need or use them herself. It made me wonder how much she “needed” the money. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be embarrassed for using those products, but I find it odd to endorse something so personal that you don’t use. Would you endorse something for which you don’t have use? I suppose if one is offered enough money, it would be hard to say no.

Well, you might not remember, but once upon a time New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath did television commercials for Hanes pantyhose. I don't think he used them!

I remember hearing about that. Charles Barkley wore a dress and full face of makeup once, but he really was using Weight Watchers at the time.

I am sure that some celebrities only play the part of endorsing a product since there is a baseball story that the late Babe Ruth a radio announcer that he does not eat a cereal brand that he endorsed.

I would not endorse anything to anyone, but that is me. Professionals that do endorsements usually do it to pay the bills, or due to contractual obligations, such as certain actors, Ryan Reynolds for example, is a spokesperson for Tim Hortons, whether he enjoys their products or not. The coaches and players for various sports teams are obligated to endorse various products, regardless of their own opinions. As far as internet influencers are concerned, I do not follow them nor would I put any stock into what they do or do not endorse.

I think it's good to stand up against stigma, and it wasn't cool for her to claim she didn't "need or use" the product.

I mean, I don’t usually show my face in many videos that I do to indorse stuff for TikTok or anything else so I really wouldn’t have a problem, but if I had to show my face and like a super embarrassing product, I might have a little bit of a problem with it, but I don’t get embarrassed really easily especially online to people that I don’t know when I’m never gonna see

I can see your point. I've never thought about it, but it would be hard to sing the praises of a product you had never used, and didn't plan to.

If it helps someone feel okay who does use them, then she is doing a service as well.

Not sure what actress you're talking about, but I've had to use stuff like that since my bladder was "iffy" with that darn UTI.

That’s probably really common for that particular problem.

I sometimes see commercials where well-known people are endorsing a product. They might have need for the product but I do wonder if they actually use it in preference to another.

It's that sort of thing that makes me disbelieve adverts. That actress was clearly doing it for the money so why believe info on how great the product is ! I know they say a ' name ' sells a product but in this case, for me anyway, the opposite would be true. Personally I believe if you are going to endorse something you should use it ... At least once ...
