This is a second post about emus. These inconic Australian birds seem to be a favourite with sculptors and craftspeople. I must have a dozen photos of various emu figures.
We took Jensen for another walk this morning. At the edge of the creek beyond the bottom of the garden, we turned right instead of left and within a few backyards, we came across this emu and two chicks. The adult is made from chain and I think the chicks are made from tin.
Just to give you value for money, once the female has laid a clutch of eggs, the male takes over incubation and raising of the chicks. Mother Nature must have been experimenting with fathers raising kids.
The houses along the creek are ‘bush blocks’ with plenty of natural timber. The area along the creek isn’t cleared either.
The photo was taken by Vince as I didn’t take my camera.

Yet another fine example of the craftsman/artistic everyday things that you enjoy in your country.
I just love to see these things, the thought process behind making them, and what materials they use is fascinating.
Vince, as always, took a great shot.

I didn't see the chicks at first until you mentioned them and I went and looked at the photo again. Very nice sculptures!

I’d never recognize an emu without Rod Hull standing next to it.
I love the way people make such great sculptures out of discarded things!

@JudyEv — yes, that puppet was evil and he was the hapless victim.
