Use by 2027

My mom bought me a pack of six quail. From what I remember they were frozen when she gave them to me so I put them in the freezer. I looked at the package the other day and it says use or freeze by 2027. I don’t remember the exact date on the package, but it doesn’t really matter. I would think it’s a typo because how in the world can quail still be good even in the freezer if it’s there until sometime in 2027?

Poultry would not last until 2027 You really need to be careful with that. And you need to know if it had been frozen before you got it. We are the Quail capital of the world, Freeze on purchase, keep frozen for 6 months max

Right now, I am defrosting beef short ribs that have been in the freezer I think since February. After I make them, then I will look into the quail.

@Ineeddentures she got the quail and the short ribs for me and she didn’t even ask me if I wanted them in the first place.

Since there are six of them, I’m probably going to give half of them to my mother. I don’t want to eat six quail at once.

@Traceyjayne They are all in one pack. They may be stuck together but not sure. I have to double check.

I’m not going to test it out until 2027 but seems very odd to me that the date would be sometime in 2027.

I agree that must be a mistake. Poultry should not be kept longer than 9 months in the freezer.

@LadyDuck I looked at the quail package and it says frozen fresh, use by August 2027.

I generally do not like to buy meat or poultry and freeze it.

I don't think I'd want to keep them that long.

A lot of things have changed. If my parents saw that my smoked sausage package says good in fridge until June they would say that is not real meat, I like to eat thme so I do anyway, Who know what they preserve stuff with these days.

I’m not planning to keep them in the freezer for that long, but it is mind-boggling to me. Of course we should go by smell and taste and not by date but somehow I fail to believe the quail will still be good by 2027.
