When cutting your hair costs more than money…

Some of you may remember actress Keri Russell for the critically acclaimed “The Americans “ or “The Diplomat “. However, she first came to the attention of the public when she headlined the WB (now defunct) channel’s show, “Felicity”. She played a girl (Felicity) who graduated high school and followed her crush to college. Personally, I have NEVER seen an episode. One thing I always noticed? Her long, (naturally) curly, beautiful hair.
So after she had a few seasons of the show under her belt, they decided to make an episode about cutting her hair, since Keri wanted it cut in real life. And that is what they did. Still leaving the curl, they cut it very short.
Ratings for the show tanked. Fans wrote how much they hated it. A memo went out to the creators of the other WB shows with clear instructions not to cut any hair of the female leads.
I remember this so clearly! Maybe the ratings would have tanked anyway, but there is little doubt the hair cut helped.

I don't know who that actress is and have never watched that show.
I need my hair cut again now.
It's down past my shoulders again.

My older brother told me my hair looks silly combed to the side. I think he's jealous because he's only got a fringe of hair around his head and wears a ballcap to hide his bald head.

I remember seeing some of that series.
I doubt that it was the haircut that tanked the series, I mean 'Rachel' did the same thing in Friends, so much as it was that it was a series about a transitionary time in someone's life. That time comes to an end, and so does the series.

Never saw the show but we should all have the right to do what we want with our own hair.

I'm familiar with how Kerri Russell is but know nothing about her hair cut and the series tanking because of it.
After all the negative response from fans they should have given her a wig

Yes there were contracts issued after that forbidding female lead characters from altering their hair.
