We have a store here in the UK called Claire’s.
I don’t know who Claire is, or even if she is a real person…..it matters not !
It is an accessories store for young girls….they do ear piercing and sell ( cheap ) items, jewellery, hair bands, etc ….
Anyway, many months ago , we heard that Claire’s was going into liquidation.
Since then the stores have had huge signs in their windows …..

Last few items
Well, you know the kind of thing.
Anyway, despite all these huge reductions and the announcements of closing down, and last few days, the stores are still open.
I went in one today and there was loads of stock….the shelves were full.
I got the impression that they have done what a lot of these companies do ….announce their closure, then ‘ buy in ‘ items especially for the closing down sale.
Crafty move methinks !
They stores will probably still have stock and still be having closing down sales this time next year !

@Traceyjayne Stores that close down usually ship in items from their other store locations. A buyer recently bought Claire’s and will continue operating 800 stores.

Yes, they ship items from other stores, however the quantities I’ve been seeing are not. ‘ leftovers ‘

@DianneN I’m not totally convinced about this closing down malarky ! I think it may be a ploy for more customers ….

@AmbiePam Granddaughter had her ears pierced there ….the first time ….she let them heal and had to have them done again….
Out of interest ….are the stores closing down there too ?

@Traceyjayne I looked it up, and while they plan to close 274 stores here, a little over 800 will remain open.

@AmbiePam I’m guessing the same will happen here too.
It’s a popular store so I was surprised when I heard they were closing down.

@Traceyjayne - This is what I heard they are doing in the US. They only keep open those in the large cities.

@LadyDuck they are closing all the ones near to me ...maybe they will keep the ones open in the bigger cities or shopping precincts.

I'm familiar with Claires. My daughters always loved to shop there when we would go to the mall. Haven't been there in ages though so I wonder if our Claire's is still open.
We had the same going out of business sale in a local furniture store. They were going out of business for years

@Marilynda we had a furniture store called DFS and they were well known for their closing down sale ...it's been on about 45 years now....
