I don't know why...

I don't know why this show kept me awake but it did.
I slept past midnight last night and as usual woke up before 6am.
The story is about an undocumented woman working as a cleaning lady in the US who got involved in a group of syndicates.
Imagine a cardiothoracic surgeon in the Philippines who ended up a cleaning lady in the US! And her reason for moving to the US was because of her son having a rare medical condition and needing a bone marrow treatment which they couldn't get in this country.
The medical attention is believable but why stay undocumented in the US and a cleaning lady?

It's something that I just cannot imagine happening in real life to a Cardiothoracic surgeon in this country. No surgeon would ever go to the US and be a. sealer, scrubbing the floors and the toilet!

A real cardiothoracic surgeon in our country would never be a cleaning lady in the US and an undocumented one at that!
Just unbelievable because such surgeon could afford to travel anywhere in the world weekly or monthly if they wish to.

@LadyDuck It's not the case in the US. No matter how good you are as a doctor in your own country, you cannot practice there unless you studied as one in the US.

@toniganzon - It is really sad, many countries need good doctors and they offer special visa to doctors who move there. Here in Italy she would have received a special visa and offered immediately a job inside a hospital.

Maybe the show needed her to remain undocumented to get jobs as a cleaning lady to keep the plot moving?

They should have used another profession then, not a practicing surgeon and a Cardiothoracic at that! They're earning tons of money here and they could afford going to and fro the US or another country for a medical treatment of their kids. And as a surgeon you she would have tons of connections in the medical field that could help her out with her son's condition.

@DaddyEvil That can be believable. But this one, nobody loses a job in this country as a cardiothoracic surgeon unless it's due to malpractice which rarely happens coz nobody files a malpractice case here.

@toniganzon That makes sense. But there are shows that start off with people earning good money and then lose that job. *shrug* Television shows often don't make sense.

According to the plot of the story, she's a Cambodian-Filipno practicing surgeon from the Philippines.

I am very much aware she wouldn't be allowed to practice there. But no surgeon and a Cardiothoracic at that would ever go there and work as a cleaning lady and stay undocumented.
We all know it's not possible to practice there at all.

@DianneN It's a series and it's not something I'd enjoy watching when it's just too far from reality.

Yes a lot! And far from the truth because no Cardiothoracic surgeon would ever go in the US to work as a cleaning lady and stay undocumented.
They could afford to go there every month if they want to or go to another country which has better and more advance medial facilities that could help her son.
To stay as a cleaning lady in the US undocumented is just not something that's believable at all.

I like crime and legal stories. This one has just something that is hard to accept in reality.

I watched the first season, but then it became too unbelievable (if it wasn’t already before), but I mainly stopped watching because I decided I didn’t fancy her enough.

didn't fancy her enough lol! I don't even find her that attractive, including the sister-in-law!
And really unbelievable! I'm not sure their writer researched well.
For most filipino audience, this show might work. Coz most of the local tv shows that are quite popular here are those with unbelievable stories and the people don't mind. But I do, I do, I do! So I don't watch them.

To work as someone unrelated to the specialized skill we have acquired through great effort can be a heartbreak.
I know of a few who go after their passion after a while climbing the corporate ladder.
A lawyer becoming a baker and such.
To end up as an undocumented is a double whammy.

Well she was already practicing her profession. It's just unreliable that she would go in some country and just become a cleaning lady.
No surgeon would ever do that here.
