How do you think about this rule?

Last night I occasionally found an online game when I was browsing the net. It is about upgrading a living place in the water world. Somewhat it is like the Sim City to me. So it's attractive to me. I wanted to play it a little bit. But when I clicked it, it asked me to sign up an account with verify my age by inputing my ID card information. That's interesting Probably they want to verify the age so that the children can play it in a limited time. But on the other hand it's also inconvenient for other users. So finally I quit and didn't play it at all.

I am not into games. Even I am not comfortable sharing too much of my details and IDs online. Even I would have quitted. Anyways, we are not safe with privacy any more. We and our lives are just digital data to be used and abused.

@youless Yes, we take all safety precautions. But still we might not be completely safe with our privacy in this digital world.

I hate when they ask for ID for anything. I don’t play games though.

I think it is still easy to cheat this rule and therefore such kind of rule is not necessary.

That's sad. It sounds like a cool game. Never ran into that rule. I have been playing a crossword game and a game with the avatar the last airbender in it. I also play a diamond painting game.

I also think it is not necessary to verify an account by ID information.

There's a couple that are like that. They are part of a company that has multiple games to choose from. I never sign up for them as I rarely play them anyway. I play the ones on other sites for points but I barely remember to do those lol

I think they can't do anything for offline games.

To be honest i would also be worried that i have to put in my card details for a game, especially if it's from a developer company I don't know anything about. Better safe than sorry.

Anything that asks me to "verify my age" by inputting real world IDs into it, I don't need. They aren't getting my information that easily!

My husband used to enjoy playing Sim City. In Australia, young people have been banned from some game sites but I don't know how effective the ban is.

Perhaps they need to verify information so that they can know whether they are children or not.

@JudyEv Yes, I think so. And I don't think it is hard for them to find out a solution.

@youless I think you are right but some young children are getting around the rules in various ways.

I do not blame you at all for refusing to verify your age and your ID card information on that online game site.
