Thursday Coffee Talk

Happy Thursday Everyone! it's a bright and sunny morning and the temperatures are in the 60s F. Is ti wishful thinking that the cold weather is now behind us? I just finished writing out a birthday card for my uncle (his birthday is next week) and was shocked to see how much my handwriting (penmanship) has deteriorated. When I was in elementary school we had actual penmanship classes and had to learn how to write our letters perfectly, As we advanced to the higher grades we were taught cursive and again we were marked on it and I always got high grades. My penmanship was always something I prided myself on and now when I look at it I feel sad. It looks like chicken scratch (as my teachers would say to those who had less than good penmanship). I blame it all on not writing as much as I used to especially since being on the computer is just so much easier. It's just a good thing we don't have to actually use a pen to write our discussions here as I would fail miserably I am a fan of technology but can remember back to the stone age when we used fountain pens that had to be refilled with ink and then the greatest invention...the ballpoint pen. I know we've had this discussion before but just thought I'd throw it out there So, how's your day going? Anything fun or exciting?

I can read my writing, but I fear others can not. I wrote for the writing group the other day in long hand, or rather I printed it, even then I think a few words were hard for the reader to read. Having to write or print a lot fast is the worst. I have never had good penmanship though.

@Marilynda1225 That's pretty good for 90. Honestly, that is how I could tell my grandmother was declining. Her writing got difficult to read. I keep looking for that issue with my mother, but it seems fine. She mostly prints.

I am certain your uncle will appreciate your thoughtful birthday card despite your chicken scratches. I write grocery lists and to do lists. If my husband can read them, anyone could!

I have excellent penmanship, but honestly, how long is that really going to last? I’m sure your writing is better than you think. I’ve had a great day. I had my eyes dilated by the eye doctor, but I got to spend the afternoon with my dad, which included lunch.

I recall penmanship class. I used to practice so much. I would write copy after copy of my book reports and such making them as nicely written as possible. I would get graded on neatness too as I recall.

Any time I write anything by hand, I print it. I got good grades writing in cursive but just didn't like doing it so switched to printing in high school after the teachers quit worrying about it. The only problem I had with printing was I print the letters too small (about the size a typewriter prints)... And yes, if I write anything by hand, I still print it small. Nothing going on here. I'm just extra tired this morning so may go to sleep earlier than normal for me this afternoon. I hope you have a great day.
