What a Disaster

Last night, a tornado was on the ground for 40 minutes (15 miles), and leveled huge parts (including neighborhoods) of Enid, Oklahoma. It was a daytime tornado, so you could see it rip off roofs, throw cars, take out homes, and pop the power poles. Amazingly, there have been no fatalities, and the injuries haven’t been serious. It’s devastating to hear people look at their flattened homes and hear the pain in their voices. Four more tornadoes hit other parts of Oklahoma, but this Enid tornado was the worst. This is the time of year though that tornadoes hit. Eleven years ago May 4th on the day of my mom’s funeral a tornado hit my dad’s neighborhood. This time of year is crazy!

This is definitely a bad time of year to be living anywhere in the midwest or in tornado alley. I've always wondered why people would choose to continue living in a place that goes through this year after year, and then I remember I'm in the same situation but with hurricanes instead of tornadoes. I choose to continue living in Florida despite the ever present danger. I'm sure it's the same for everyone in the midwest.

@AmbiePam We all have our reasons for wanting to live or stay in the communities where we're currently at. Although I hate the heat and humidity of Florida, I just can't ever see myself leaving the wonderful beaches here.

How awful! Tornadoes are so frightening to me. I can only imagine how devastated those people must feel looking at their flattened homes. Happy no lives were lost.

I hope those people can focus on the miracle of no deaths, and let go of all the material things they lost.

@AmbiePam Exactly! A house can certainly be rebuilt, but life can’t.

That is awful. Do they know the F power of it? I saw the aftermath of a serious tornado once in Southern Maryland. Several people were killed, and a brick house was flattened. There was rubble everywhere. Friend donated a chainsaw to them.

Such devastation brought about by nature. It's heartbreaking. As long as there's no fatalities though, homes can be rebuilt. But a life lost couldn't be brought back.

Wow that gave me chills just reading about the tornado that hit and the devastation it caused. Only by the grace of God no one was killed. I really would never be able to deal with tornado season. It's bad enough when we have to deal with hurricanes here.

It definitely sounds like a scary situation to be in. I do feel bad for those having to deal with this. I am glad that we don't have to deal with this.

That is terrifying. Thank goodness, no fatalities and severe injuries, but so sad about the destroyed houses.

I have seen tornados in videos and on tv only. They are really disastrous. I pray for the safety of the people who are affected by the storm.

The pictures of the devastation are horrible...homes just wiped out and a pile of rubble. Seeing that, I was completely amazed that there are no deaths yet reported, and as you said, no serious injuries. We are under a high alert for some big time weather on Monday. I will be watching that to see what it does in the next few days. But it's unusual for the weather people to forecast it 3-4 days ahead. Time will tell.

I know that Oklahoma is not the safest state for what concerns tornadoes. At leas there were not fatalities.
