A Helping Hand

I was going to name my post empathy and understanding, but thought maybe this would be much better. I am writing about my very first airline flight, which I took last weekend. I was petrified, and I do not have a 'poker face' so it was rather evident. Before our flight took off, the attendant in our area noticed this. She quietly came over to me and asked if I was alright and if it was my first flight. I nodded no and then yes. After she introduced herself, she explained to me that I was going to be fine. She advised me (don't ask me why) that the pilot stated that there would be 45-60 minutes of turbulence at the start of our flight. I told her that I was advised to sit calmly with my hands on my lap. She showed me where her jumper seat was, and I could see it from my seat, and if I saw her white knuckled, then I knew it was bad, but otherwise, just sit back and try to relax. She checked in on my about every 20 minutes. During her last check in, I asked her if by chance she was on the same early flight yesterday from Toronto to Victoria, and yes, she was. I told her that my hubs, son and DIL and twin baby girls were on that flight. She asked if one of them was called Willow, and I was amazed that she remembered. She was on their flight. When I went to get off of the plane, she stood in the aisle and gave me a great big ole hug and congratulated me on doing so well. My family remembered her well, she was so accommodating. We flew out of Victoria to Toronto on the same flight, which was delayed 45 minutes. They then took a connecting flight, which they almost missed, to come back here to London, I was escorted to a motor coach for the final leg of my journey. I got back about the same time as they did. I went on the Air Canada website yesterday to sing her praises and give her kudos. It is the very least that I could do, as she literally doted on me, and yet still seemed to be able to do her job and assist the other passengers. How do you compliment people who give a helping hand? I also thanked her profusely, and my hubby thanked her in person on his final flight from Toronto to London, as she was on that flight also. ~Photo is mine of the babies in between flights a week ago

The twins are beautiful and so well behaved. You were really lucky to find this great flight attendant who understood that you were panicking and needed a special assistance. When I can, I usually buy a gift and write a card to donate to people who were particularly helpful. Of course it was impossible with flight attendants, but I thanked all those who were kind and helpful.

She sounds like someone who went above and beyond her job. She certainly knows how to make you feel comfortable and reassuring for your first flight. I'm glad you had a good experience and how ironic that she was on the same flights as your family. Love the picture of the girls. Wonder what Willow did to be remembered by the lovely flight attendant. Probably just her being her adorable self I'm really glad you had a positive experience and enjoyed your trip. Will you fly again now that you've done it?

I think saying thank you and confirming you appreciate the help is enough.

That’s so lovely! I am so glad you had an earthly Angel on your flight. And how cool that she was there for the rest of your family too!
