The Irony of it All

North Florida and South Georgia have been in extreme drought for the past couple of months, with no relief in sight in the near future. New wildfires are popping up daily and stretching firefighting resources thin. It’s getting bad here. Really bad. So imagine the irony when I took a trip to Disney World this weekend, which is about an hour and a half south of where I live, and it poured down rain the entire time! Of course the Orlando area is not in a drought, so naturally it would rain there and not where the rain is most needed! Anyway, when the storms ended yesterday evening right around sunset, we were treated to a beautiful rainbow. Just a reminder that there is still beauty in the natural world even in the midst of troubling times. Do you stop and appreciate the beauty of rainbows when you see them? Photo was taken from the ferry boat as we made our way across the Seven Seas Lagoon from the ticket and transportation center to the Magic Kingdom. I’m still convinced that Disney somehow controls the weather over their theme parks! Lol

I haven't seen a rainbow for a while when I think about it Jeff. We used to think that the PGA Tour could control the rain , seriously, some people here thought they had planes which sprayed stuff into the clouds to stop the rain

I don’t know how Disney does it, but it seems like every single time I visit their theme parks (which is quite often), there always seems to be a full moon in the sky. I really needed your help on Saturday. While in the queue for one of the rides at Disney World, I met a family from Scotland. The two daughters I could understand just fine, but I could not understand a single word the two parents were saying to me.

@Ineeddentures No, I didn't bother finding out where exactly they were from. I told them I had traced my ancestry back to Moffat, Scotland, but they didn't really say much about that (at least not much I could understand). And honestly, the older daughter (she must have been in her young 20s) was really attractive, and I wanted to spend the time in the queue talking to her, but I was with my girlfriend so I had to limit my conversation. The older daughter was wearing a Pink Floyd shirt, so we did talk a little bit about how much we both enjoyed their music. But how come the parents spoke in a very thick Scottish accent but the two daughters didn't? The daughters almost sounded British versus Scottish.

@moffittjc Did you find out where they were from in our small but proud nation?

Rainbows are cool. Lack of rain in drought-stricken areas is not cool. Anyway, glad you and I both got to see rainbows.

@TheHorse We are forecast to get rain this weekend, but unfortunately it won’t be enough. But every little bit will help.

My son, who lives in south florida, told me it rained for a week straight down there. A lot of the state is getting rain, but it seems to be in all the areas that are not in a drought. I heard on the news this morning that that our area needs 30 inches of rain just to get us out of this drought.

@snowy22315 A lot of different parts of the country are suffering and need rain. And I’ve also noticed that the parts of the country that don’t need rain are getting too much of it!

The photo is beautiful! I rarely go outside anymore without Pretty and she won't go outside if it's raining. We had storms all day Sunday and then got hail around 10 pm Sunday evening. It's still storming at 2 am Monday morning.

@moffittjc I found out this morning that some areas just West and South of me flooded and people had to be rescued. Apparently everybody was okay, though. Believe me, if I could send you some, I would. My part of the state seems to be the only part that isn't in drought conditions right now.

Hopefully the hail was the worst of it, and you didn’t have any threatening tornadoes hit your area. And please…send some of your rain. We desperately need it.

That's a lovely picture. Cousin #2 said it's only rained a little bit since she moved to Homosassa.

@LindaOHio We'll gladly take it, as long as it doesn't come with any tornadoes.

The coastal area from Tampa north to Crystal River (which includes Homosassa) is part of the area of the state in extreme drought. It's crazy how certain parts of the state are getting plenty of rain, and other parts nearby aren't getting any rain.

I'm fixing to be heading to Fla around the 7th of May & from what I have seen fires have been really bad around some areas close to where we'll be going to (panhandle)

Most of the bad fires or on the eastern side of the panhandle, but considering the panhandle is 90% forested, the danger lurks everywhere in that area. I hope you can travel safely without any worries of nearby fires.

@moffittjc Yea I've been watching the news on it + I have a few friends that live in the area somewhat so they keep me in the loop of what's going on.

@moffittjc Where you are I have a good friend we have known for years not far from you that we'll be visiting on our way back to Indiana so HOPEFULLY the fires will have been contained or out by then. "Crawfordville fla"

Is that a lagoon? I think the photo is so beautiful, and yes I always stop just to adore the beautiful sky and rainbow. I love summer you know, and I love the pluppy clouds.

They call it a lagoon, but it is really a large man-made lake. I often find myself looking at the puffy clouds and beautiful sky, even when I'm in a hurry. Seeing the beauty of nature always relaxes me and puts me in a better mood.

Oh, yes, I absolutely stop and enjoy a rainbow. When I was in Minnesota, on my way to South Dakota, I saw a rainbow that was so vibrant that I pulled off on the side of the road to take a picture of it!

It was such a beautiful view. I wanted to just sit and stare at the rainbow for hours. One of the things I love about Disney World is the amount of conservation land they have set aside, and how the beauty of nature is all around, even when you’re in the middle of the theme parks.

That is ironic. And lol about Disney. I’ve seen double rainbows in Hawaii - one towards the east and the other towards the west. I didn’t know which one to look at first. Florida is known for its beautiful rainbows. They are huge and seem to cross from the ocean right across the intercoastal to my backyard.

It’s funny you mention two rainbows, because we were just talking about that last night on the drive home. I’ve seen lots of double rainbows (one on top of the other), but have never seen multiple rainbows where you have to look in opposite directions to see them.

Thanks. It's hard to believe that the photo is at Disney World. But it shows how well they protect the land around their theme parks.

Looking ahead, there is a 40% chance of rain on Thursday. But the weather forecasters say we need at least 30 inches of rain to get us out of this drought. We don’t even get that much rain when major hurricanes hit.

Sometimes you can get the perfect view of a rainbow while driving, but others times they’re harder to see from inside a vehicle. I’ve been known to pull over on the side of the road just so I can safely look at God’s beauty.
