A Killer.

Am I? This morning while outside, I saw one of the four plants I planted with the smallest and top leaves being eaten by a very small worm. I got so angry that I killed the worm. You see, two to three months ago, I gave up on this citrus plant (calamansi) already. It was around 10-12 inches with all the leaves gone and was eaten by worms. The stem and stalk was the only one left that I thought it will soon die. I started losing hope that it would survive, so I just let it be. Then after a week or two, I noticed something surprising—the leaves slowly started growing back. Little by little, it came back to life. Now it looks so beautiful, around 15 to 18 inches tall, full of fresh green leaves. That’s why when I saw that tiny worm again this morning, I felt protective. After seeing how much the plant went through just to recover, I didn’t want it to be destroyed all over again. Maybe I overreacted, but I guess that’s what happens when you watch something struggle and survive. You start to care more than you expected. I really hope this time it will survive.

Good job! If something is killing your plant, you want to kill the destroyer so the plant can live and be healthy!

I have done the killings you have done. I also make a spray out of Castile soap and water. It works so well on all kinds of insects and worms. Good luck with your plant!

@rakski It’s a gentle and highly rated soap that can be used for bathing, etc. I get mine on Amazon.

@rakski I hate killing even insects, but sometimes it's necessary.

I think killing a worm to protect the plant was a good thing to do.

@brokenbee I did not do that because I'm pretty sure they will go back to my calamansi plant

@rakski yes... that's why instead of killing them, I just put them on another plant and hope they will become a beautiful butterfly...

ahaha. It also happened on my first calamansi. I almost gave up on this second one because it already lost its leaves. But it is thriving to grow back the leaves so I need to take care of it

You had every right to protect your plant. After all, it is a living thing, and you’re trying to protect it.

So true. When it lost all the leaves a while back, I thought it will die as well so I didn't take care of it then suddenly the leaves came back so I am happy

It is so aggravating when varmints get into the plants. Have you tried spraying a mix of dishwashing liquid and water on them? I think that sometimes works and poses no hazard.

If you didn't kill the worm, the worm would kill the plant so I think you did the right thing.
