A female emu named Picasso on Thursday from her owners home in Mt. Juliet on Thursday of last week when animal control officers were able to catch the emu about a mile away after being reported missing for a few hours into a trailer where the emu was taken care of until the owner planned to pick up Picasso on Saturday. The owner of Picasso admitted that the emu escaped from her home when a latch was opened by accident on Thursday. Hopefully Picasso's owner will learn a lesson to make sure that the home is secure so that the animal is in a safe home. Link is wkrn.com/news/local-new...

Why would anyone want an emu as a pet? Do they try to outrun it? At least it’s safe now.

@Deepizzaguy I agree. A parakeet would be a better bird to have.

Good question since emus are hard to own and catch when they run away.

I am sure that the emu had a wonderful time being free for a while.

Emus are quite intimidating when they are up so close.

I have seen them on television. I would rather have a Rottweiler as a pet than an emu.

I sm glad he was rescued and returned to his owner. I wonder if it is much trouble raising emus.

America is a much freer country than Australia, where emus come from. You can do it, here, but you need a licence as a gamekeeper to do it. I wonder how they got their hands on that emu, over there. I hope it was done legally.

Most likely legally since the area where the emu calls home allows emus as pets.
