I’ve Been Warned

I had an appointment with a new rheumatologist this morning, and then they wanted some blood. I told them to go through the hand, and they actually listened, so that was nice. I felt bad for the phlebotomist in training because the one in charge was hanging over her shoulder. I slapped my hand to get the vein to “stand to attention”, and she thought her trainee did it and almost had a cow. I assured her that was just me. Unfortunately, she had to use both hands. After that, I dropped some dog food off at a friend’s house that I got for free, but Sadie didn’t want. It was sprinkling as I headed over to my dad’s. He was actually asleep, which is unusual, but he stayed up to watch the NBA games. He got up, heard me talk, said stay away from me, and if I get a cold I’m blaming you. I assured him I had no intention of getting near him, and told him I’m not even sure if it’s a cold or allergies. He’s around a lot of people all the time. After all, I’m not the one who gave him Covid. Hope whatever is with me stays with me.

I hope you don’t get whatever he had! I was watching some severe weather coverage on YouTube last night, and at 1 AM they were worried about having to interrupt an NBA game for a tornado warning on TV. That’s too late for a basketball game (and people complain about baseball being long? Ha!)

Now, I know you’re being silly, but I have often thought it hypocritical when you take into account how long basketball games last to not take into account the East Coast. Football too!

Did you get any of the baseball sized hail that just hit here? That came down for several minutes and stopped and then marble sized hail fell for a few minutes. My car's hood had some big dents in it now. At least the hail didn't break any glass anywhere here. MUCH nicer when they listen and take blood from the hand instead of digging in the arms for veins that don't want to be jabbed with a needle. I'm glad they listened to you!

Oh, no, your car got dented? I’m so sorry. They had pictures of that kind of hail last night on the news, but not today. We got some of that hail a couple years ago and insurance totaled my car. You said you get up and leave if they don’t listen to you about where to get the blood, right?

Me too, and I wouldn’t put my dad in danger of a cold. His lower back is still killing him after that fall.

As you said, he is around people all the time. Maybe he was just having a grumpy day?

Will you get your blood test results this afternoon in a patient portal?

I’m sure the results will be in the patient portal at some point, but The Arthritis Center serves so many doctors and their patients I don’t think they could get it done today. They want to make sure my inflammation markers aren’t still off the charts. They keep moving me towards being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I’m really not trying to add to my list of ailments. Loo, did you talk to you your primary about seeing a rheumatologist? I think you were curious to see if you had fibromyalgia, if I remember right.

Colds can be a little scary. I was concerned I would get friends cold because he was coughing and sneezing all over the place, but luckily did not.

Oh, I know. As we all get older it takes longer and longer to recover. I definitely don’t want him to get a cold.

I hope that he feels better soon. I am sure that the student will do well in her career if she could do her job without losing it while her trainer did lose it.
