It Was a Mixed Bag Visiting Mother-in-Law Today

When we arrived, the nurse stopped me and told me that there'd been an "incident" with the mother-in-law last night. Apparently when she pulled the bathroom cabinet door open, which is a tall cabinet door extending pretty tall up, it pulled loose and struck her on the head. We went to MIL's room and sure enough she had an injury with a small bump above her left eyebrow. So we had to hear that story about 12 times over the course of three hours and how it "knocked her out" (it didn't) and how she was going to sue them for a million dollars (she's not). Granted, it was traumatic for her, but it was an accident. They were repairing the cabinet when we left. She is not complaining of headaches or soreness or anything. Then we took her out to eat at a nearby restaurant and she seemed to enjoy that. We even bought her a dessert because that's her favorite part. She asked us the same questions 4 times each. We know she can't help it, but it does wear thin after a while. Overall it was a good visit and she was in a good mood, considering. I always post a pink photo to go with posts about the MIL because her favorite color is pink.

Overall it sounds like she enjoyed her outing especially dessert. It's hard to listen to someone tell the same story over and over

Has your Mother In Law told stories from the past (that she always told before), but all of a sudden changes certain things that happened and you can't correct her because she really thinks she is right? My Mom, is starting to do that. She is in the early stages of dementia. It is like she is distorting history.

I'm sorry your MIL got hurt. I know what you mean about hearing the same stories over and over again.

One has to be really patient with people suffering from Alzheimers.

OK, it did make me laugh at first but I can understand how traumatic this can be. That institution should check all doors now; someone could really get knocked out.

I hear you about repeated questions/stories getting hard to cope with. We're all only human when dealing with people who continually repeat stuff.

Often, people suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia do things like this. They simply can't remember how to open things, or even close them. She may have tugged endlessly on it, etc. but you won't ever know, of course. I am glad to hear she is not seriously hurt.
