When mom came to stay with us for her last Christmas it turned out to be, I got her several trivial items to open and other nicer ones. Among the trivial ones was a can of room spray i happened to find. She loved it. It was lilac scented. We both have a thing for lilacs. To this day lilacs hold a special spot and they always remind me of mom and our last holiday together.

Such sweet memories. My father planted lilacs and irises and I think of him every time I see them.

I can understand that lilacs would bring back such bittersweet memories.
