Depression is SAD

Depression is something I have lived with most of my life. I remember my first experiences with psychiatrists and really wanting to get their help. I also recall one , when I was 16 or 17 telling me " no young girl your age is that honest and that nice". In my youthful innocence I had thought you were supposed to be honest with your counselors. Then one took me aside when I had my first experience in a looney bin and told me "I am going to help you" and he did. Dr. Snow was my savior during a time of pure madness. He believed me when I spoke and instilled in me a knowledge of depression both clinically and spiritually that has followed me into today. Then, in my research I found out that the symptoms were more than just feeling glum and that has helped me so much. I still get depressed though as I am right now. But I refuse to go down that black hole and am hanging on for dear life. I'd rather cry and scream than let it take me down. Lack of drive, weakness, laziness and a feeling of uncaring is where I'm at right now. It is sad. I try not to let it be seen. I have learned from experience how to keep it from becoming too horrible thank goodness. My doctor is coming out again toward the end of next month. I hope I can rise above this and explain the how and the why of it. We'll see.

You really have a good handle on your depression, but it still invades your space, I know. I am glad at least some of your doctors have been good to help you.

I do feel low in terms of energy at times, but I have moments of relief to achieve and not give up. Things are different after retirement, trying to find some meaningful activity to keep going.

Take a deep breath and while you inhale count 1 to 5 and then exhale slowly counting 1to 8. Do this whenever feel depressed or anxious.
