There is Grand, Great, and Great-Great

Yesterday I received a strange looking email in my spam folder. I had a 'feeling' that it might not be spam, so I opened it. It was an email, sent to phone numbers only, from my sister-in-law. She did something like this last summer, not sure how she can goof up an email, but...... The jist to the email was that Kaitlyn, who is a great niece, and got married on the Labour Day weekend last year, is expecting her first child. We typically all just email our SIL money and she either buys a shower gift or gives it as cash. Either way, it means that I do not have to shop-that's a win. I mentioned to my husband, that your niece is going to be a grandmother. Yes, he said, and that makes us a Great-Great Aunt and Uncle. Now that makes me feel old. I never had any Great-Great Aunts. Kaitlyn will make 7 of us that with this baby. ~Unrelated photo of Ozzie a planter of mine

Oh my goodness, I think that I am also a great-great aunt of Bianca and Federico. Congratulation to your great niece.

Thank you. We are one generation further. Our niece will be the grandmother, and then her daughter, our great niece will be the mother. It is complicated.

@Juliaacv - Cecilia is the only niece that I have, I have young relatives who are children of my cousins, but my only direct niece is Cecilia.

Not too many families span so many generations living. My husband has alot of siblings, he is near the middle, and there is less than a decade between him and his eldest niece.

I can't imagine what it must be like to know some of your decendents, for me being a great aunt won't happen, one nephew is already gone and I haven't heard from the other 2 in years but I doubt either has kids.

I am sorry that you've lost and that the other doesn't stay close. Sometimes I used to feel like my in-laws were smothering me because there are so many of them, but now, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am thankful for all of them.

Well congratulations!! I always knew you were "great" I always find it exciting when hearing about a new baby in the family or of a friend. I'm still just plain old grandma and haven't reached the great stage yet. I do like your planter and cool name Ozzie.
