The Smoke Detector Woke Me Up

No my house isn’t on fire It’s just before midnight and I was awakened by a faint repetitive “beep-beep-beep” in successions of threes I walked all through the house tracing down the sound until I realized it was coming from the garage. I stepped into the garage and saw the overhead smoke detector flashing red and heard louder beeping. It wasn’t the shrill alarm like you get when there’s smoke and it wasn’t the ear piercing chirp you get when the battery dies. I went back inside and woke up hubby. He investigated and said it’s one of those 5 year detectors that don’t take batteries that was going out. So hubby got dressed and took down the detector, which I guess made it stop beeping and took it outside to the garbage can But naturally I am wide awake now At least we’re safe.

Somewhere,in some corner of the world, there is an unwritten law that smoke detectors only start beeping in the middle of the night. It happens to me every time. So maddening!!

What is it about smoke detectors that always make them go bad in the middle of the night?

I would have been roaming the house looking for the beeping too.
