Our friends are in Spain on a trip which includes a cruise. They were a bit worried about the journey as they had to fly to Dubai then on to Barcelona. However, they are safely on their cruise ship now. One of the main attractions for them was to view the magnificent basilica, La Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction for over 150 years. It's apparently finished on the outside but there is more work to be done on the interior.
The architect, Antoni Gaudi, has also designed many other buildings throughout Barcelona. The tallest spire is 172.5 metres and the building will be blessed by Pope Leo next weekend. All funds have come from private donations and tourist ticket sales. At the moment, there is a limit of 1500 visitors per hour. I can’t imagine that many people per hour streaming through a place.
The supports in the interior are designed to look like sycamore trees and there are life-size carvings on the outside of the building that tell of the life and death of Jesus Christ.
The photo was taken by my friend.

Any idea on when it will be finished? Or is that why it's being blessed?

@JudyEv BTW, how do you say controversary? We say it all one word just like that nothing accented. I think the Brits call it Controversy accenting the middle letters. Sometimes it sounds like an A sound too.

Wow! To be under construction for that long. Imagine what it will be like when it is finished. What a structure.

We visited the Basilica a few years ago. The stain glass windows are amazing,

What a beautiful building! I wonder if they can actually hold any worship services inside the building, with all the construction going on and all the tourists flowing through? It certainly would be distracting if you were trying to have fellowship with the Lord.
