Hey, it’s 6/7 in America….so the kids on TikTok are happy.
(“6-7” won’t be until July 6 in other parts of the world because they put the day first.) I’m packed and ready to go! Where? You know I don’t know. But I do know that Sir Paul McCartney is having a birthday this month, and we’re celebrating that with songs that mention the Beatles. Here’s a guy who’s been mentioned in a song or two himself.
Festival - Chuck Berry
One listen to that guitar riff and you know exactly who this is!
The Beatles are the last band mentioned. Yes, last band. I think Chuck Berry named every act who’d had a hit in 1970 in this song!
In the wake of Woodstock (a number of acts who performed there are mentioned in this song), Berry envisioned putting on a concert on the Ohio River, with barges of stages stretching “from Paducah (Kentucky) to Cairo (Illinois)” (a distance of about 40 miles as the crow flies, but I don’t know how far as the river flows). Chuck even paid tribute to two (then) recently-departed greats: “Oh, brother Hendrix, sister Joplin, we wish you were here.”
Well, at least we can dream of such an event. Thanks for the idea, Chuck. You’d need to be there, too. Rock and roll wouldn’t exist without you.

“Whatever you want to do, baby, it’s beautiful!” I think that’s what he said on that record.

I’ve heard about this 6/7 thing, but have no idea what it means. Coincidentally, I am at the 6/7 age. so I hope it brings me luck?

@FourWalls It just appealed to a wider audience I suppose. Mainly the silly people. I’m one of them unfortunately

@Orson_Kart — I think it was recorded in England. It was his only #1 hit in America, too, believe it or not.

He was, I think, in his mid-40s when that album came out, and he looked like he’d been living a lot harder than that.

It would have been funnier if he dropped a Beaatles reference into "My Ding-A-Ling." Just for comedy purposes.

I’m glad you’re enjoying listening to the new-to-you artists. Chuck Berry was a trailblazer, I think he’s required listening for everyone in Rock and Roll 101 class.
