Light traveller

I used to envy people who travel light, like they only bring minimal stuff. Do you travel light? When you travel or go out for the day, do you pack light, or do you bring an extra bag filled with things you might need but never actually use? When I travel, I'm trying my best to just bring what I actually need. But most of the time, I bring a lot of "just in case" stuff lol.

We do travel light. We tour Scotland on a motorbike so we need to travel light. But now we have stopped camping and use caravans instead on sites we carry less on the bike anyway No tents and sleeping bags etc

When I was still single, I used to pack light. But when you get kids, the luggage gets heavier and bigger. But now they are bigger, it is becoming less again

Exactly! I can relate to that. Literally bringing the whole house when kids still smaller.

When I was younger, I was an overpacker. I wanted to be prepared for every scenario. I’d say since I’ve turned thirty I have packed the bare minimum. I just don’t want to lug things around, or ask a family member to shoulder any of my baggage either.

That's true. I have that kind of thinking too, especially having kids. But as they grow older, I pack less.

If I am travelling by plane, I try to take as little as possible. Saying that, I still tend to take too much. I can certainly improve in that area. If I go by car, I definitely overpack. You never know what you might need!

I agree! I'm like that too. I tend to overpack to be honest. Like I think ahead what I might need. And I would write down everything I need especially important ones when traveling long distance and long vacations.

@k_krist It’s a good idea to make a list based on duration of stay. Overnight, you can just take essentials and one change of underwear. For me, essentials means very little, but for women it can mean a lot. Then I would just count the number of nights away and multiply the underwear, socks and shirts by that number. Jeans, shorts and coats can be worn multiple times.

@Orson_Kart yeah as a woman, I really take many things with me lol. Plus I have children so double or triple it. I also make a list so I won’t forget anything essential.

I take as much as possible with me …..if it’s a holiday I take for all weathers and for more days than I am going to be away for …..I am very much a ‘ just in case ‘ person.

Exactly! You wouldn't want to spoil your vacation by bringing to many things.
