As you know I do some occasional events work, which often includes things like concerts, cocktail parties, weddings and ceremonies. Last week I was a steward at a ‘Luminarium’. This is something I had never heard of before and when I described it to Little One she said it sounded like being inside a bouncy castle – which is basically exactly what it is. These ‘installations’ are created by a company called Architects of Air and designed by Alan Parkinson, who was originally working with disadvantaged children when he came up with ways to improve the design of bouncy castles, and from there one thing led to another. Now there are several of these creations touring the world. Each luminarium is different but they are all made from plastic in different colours, which is thin enough that the sunlight shines through so that you wander about in a world of colour, with soft music playing. It was fun to see the responses of different visitors to the experience. Some of the adults just took a quick walk around and left, while the babies were very happy to just lie there gazing around in wonder. Have you ever visited a luminarium? No, I haven’t, but it sounds really cool. My nieces and nephew would no doubt love it.

No, but the lighting experience sounds similar to what you get when you set up a tent where it will be in the bright sunlight. Did it get hot in there in the afternoons?

Luckily the hot weather we had a couple of weeks ago changed to much cooler weather so it didn't get too hot, and when we had the shifts outside welcoming visitors etc it was really quite chilly. It could be very hot on really sunny days though!

@Fleura Yeah, we had some hot days, too. Today will be one of those. I'm glad you could switch off with the people outside when it got hot in there.

It must have been interesting as a steward too, watching the different reactions. I can picture some adults rushing through thinking, “Okay, I’ve seen it,” while others probably slowed down and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

You're absolutely right. Just walking through didn't really provide the full experience, you needed to take time, slow down and really immerse yourself in it.

I'd be down with the babies I think. I've never heard of this before but it sounds wonderful.
