Why is it difficult for some people to say thank you when you help them

..so this morning on my way to work, I saw my friend’s car parked by the roadside..I was wondering why? I stopped and asked him what happened. He said the car couldn’t start and that he had called a mechanic who was on his way. We bantered for a little while before I went to my workplace. ..Some minutes later, I saw a man looking confused in front of my office. I suspected he was the mechanic, so I called him ..the look he gave me was kinda condescending... Anyway, I asked if he was looking for my friend , he said yes, and after I pointed to where my friend was, he walked away without even saying “thank you.”..damn..this one lack common courtesy Small thing like saying thank you is now difficult for some people? Is it really that hard for people to show basic appreciation when someone helps them?

Many people in my country also don't have the habit to thank someone who has done something good for them. I, for one, never forget to thank those who does something good to me. It's a good habit.

@Wrexxo Agree. And the number of ungrateful persons is increasing.

Thank you and excuse me seems to be rare these days. I have reprimanded several of our younger staff for not saying those when necessary. My cistern and I noticed how the younger generation seem to neglect good manners or their parents failed to teach them at all. Our kids aren't so. We made sure they're well mannered and act politely.

@Wrexxo That's probably why. He probably thinks he doesn't need to

You would think that a proper thank you would be automatic and not something someone would have to think about saying. It was really nice of you to send him off to help your friend. I'm sure your friend was very thankful when the mechanic showed up.

Some people have absolutely no manners. You are clearly made of better manners. You helped him so you have done your bit!

I've noticed a less 'thank you's' being handed out over the last few years. Maybe your guy was embarrassed at not being able to find your friend but that's no excuse.

don't want to generalize but people who work physical jobs, they barely thanked me too or barely say hello to me. i don't know why they think so high of themselves. sorry, in your case.

That’s pretty bad. Even if we was embarrassed by his his own confusion, he should have said thank you.

I think there's just some people who is not use in saying thank you. But some people never say it in words they just either pat or bow their head a little.
