Loneliness Versus Solitude

Someone on social media mentioned to me that they felt bad that I was alone. (I suppose they meant not in a relationship). I tried to explain to them how I felt about my life and that I didn't need a man in my life. I keep getting messages from strange men on Facebook wanting to chat. I have no desire. There's one thing I want to make plain right away. There is a big difference between being alone and solitude. Loneliness is an emotional state of feeling empty and unseen, yearning for companionship. While in contrast solitude is a very intentional peaceful state of being alone. It nurtures self-discovery and creativity. Not all people have to be with someone. Solitude is a deliberate state of being. I enjoy time spent alone and with my children. I talk to online friends nearly every day. I'm not a social butterfly and never have enjoyed being where a lot of people are around. That has only intensified with age. Your thoughts.

Nothing wrong with a bit of solitude. It's a choice many make I have done so in the past May do so again one day if the need arises

I have a niece who can't stand being alone. She's been married five times and is living with another guy now. I never understood that. I LIKE being by myself. I tried married life twice and prefer not having someone constantly underfoot. Yes, I live with my daughter, but she stays in her bedroom most of the time and I stay in mine... We both go to the kitchen when I've made something to eat that she's interested in but, after grabbing food, we go back to our separate bedrooms to eat. If I need something, Pretty is in her room right next to mine. We can't hear each other if we're in our bedrooms so I send texts or she sends me a text. I talk with friends on the phone or via texts or I talk with friends on myLot. I agree, there is a big difference between being lonely and being alone.

It's actually easier to be lonely when surrounded by people than when alone.

I understand exactly what you're saying. Too many people around drains my energy.
