Did you know this?

Here in NYC, instead of saying “Hi” people will say “How are you?” to you.
That doesn’t mean that they actually want you to tell them how you are doing.
It’s just their way of being friendly and saying hello to you.
I did not know that before.
Sometimes they will actually say “Hi, how are you?”. I am not sure if in this case they actually want to know how you are or not but I usually reply with “good” regardless if I am actually good or not.

To me, it’s weird asking someone “how are you?” when you don’t really want to know how a person is.

@Ineeddentures somebody would actually say they’re vegan without anybody asking?

I did not know that saying "How are you" is the main way New Yorkers greet others.

In Southern Germany, if you ask someone how they are doing, they will literally stop and let you know.
