Howdy from the garden of good and evil! Yep, Im in Savannah. It was a great trip to a fort dating back to the Revolutionary War yesterday, and you’re going to hear about it later. For now, you’re going to enjoy (I hope) another song that mentions the Beatles. Here’s a guy you probably haven’t thought of in 40 years or so….
Perfect Day - Chris de Burgh
Have you ever had one of THOSE days, not the bad kind but the great kind. When you know it’s special. When every fiber in your body is holding on to every millisecond to cherish for the rest of your life.
That’s what this song is about. Chris de Burgh, whom you may remember for the song “The Lady in Red,” enjoyed his day so much that he wrote a song about it. He said that most of this happened when he and his wife went on a picnic with a couple of relatives.
Of course you have your Beatles references (it wouldn’t be in this countdown otherwise!
). The reference to the Christmas song at the end is probably a nod to de Burgh’s 1975 song “A Spaceman Came Traveling,” even though the music is “Silent Night.”
And, if you’re a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, none of that matters because Chris de Burgh is also the man who did “Don’t Pay the Ferryman.”

Lord you should have heard those harmonies

When I saw the title, I was thinking of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” I’m not a fan of Chris de Burgh, so I’ll pass on this and give you the Various Artists charity version of Lou’s song. It’s a beauty….

@FourWalls I agree, “Don’t Pay the Ferryman” is his best song.
Something tells me you didn’t watch my video link.
I was going to ask you if you could name all the artists featured. I couldn’t but think you might.

Like Scott said, “Don’t Pay the Ferryman” blows his big hit out of the water. And yeah, Lou’s “Perfect Day” is also splendid.

@Orson_Kart — no, I didn’t see Bowie or Elton or Emmylou or Shane MacGowan or Robert Cray and was that Suzanne Vega?!

Quite great in terms of rhythmic effect, gradual tempo built up and well, a unique style.
Helps in my trip of "Diversified" Music listening!

I prefer “Don’t Pay the Ferryman” much more than “The Lady in Red,” but I’m in the minority there.

It’s such a picturesque song. I love people who paint scenes so well like this.
