I bought this book mainly for the title. It is purportedly written by Rebecca M. Hale, but I'm sure Mr Roget and his thesaurus had a lot to do with it... Why use one adjective when you can throw in two or three?
This is designated a mystery novel, but the real mystery is how it got published in the first place. I won't say there are plot holes, just that the thin plot wanders around unfinished thoughts.
This was my second reading of the book, but I'm still not sure I know what happened.

Well, there's a good deal of information about William Leidesdorff and the founding of San Francisco, but some of the characters are ludicrous.

Yeah, doesn't bear rereading.

A lot of self-published books now were never spellchecked or proofread before being published. When I get one of those, I write a bad review for it on Amazon. *shrug* If the person didn't want an honest review, then they shouldn't have published it.

It says on the cover "First in a new series" so maybe their agent talked it up 'real good'.

I hate to read books like that.
