I used to be so good at spelling. I was writing stories out in long hand at about nine years of age. I could remember which words had a f and which had a ph. I knew the ei thing. Now I have to write it down and think about it. I often have to do a spell check. I hate it. Growing old is definitely not for sissies.

I'm the same too. I have to check spelling or 'think about it'/does it look right? It's very annoying.

The same thing happens to me. This morning I was trying to write the word cripple but was leaving out one of the P's. I actually had to ask my Alexa to spell it for me

Gosh. I do recall the rule that one p would make the 'i' say its name.
