It Was a Happy Day Today

Today was a happy day in my world. I finished working early. I got a call that my new eyeglasses were ready. Grandpa and the girls and I went over. Willow asked if she could come in with me because she doesn't see me very often and missed me. Of course when I was helping her out of her carseat, Harper decided that she'd like to join us. They were both really good inside. Willow looked at a story book that I found for her in the waiting room, and Harper had a book to look at also. Harper was much much more interested in checking out the children's frames. I had to carefully explain to her that those were special glasses and that she wouldn't be trying any on. They both have numerous pairs of sunglasses and they have not seen any other children wearing prescription glasses, so they didn't know otherwise. I only have to wear my glasses for reading or working on the computer. I have progressive lenses, the top is basically just glass, and the bottom is the part that I need to use to see. Right now we are under a tornado warning. The skies are very dark out, and it is so calm that it is a bit scary. I hope that nothing materializes here overhead.

I did not need to wear glasses until two years ago, then suddenly my right eye could not see distant objects, now I wear progressive glasses all the time. The girls are so good to keep quiet when you bring them with you. We had a terrible thunderstorm during the night, it was scary. Take care and keep safe.

I've long had to wear glasses for close work. I do not know if a tornado touched down last night or not. It was very still and calm here. I will be sure to watch the evening news tonight. They are forecasting hot weather to come over the weekend and next week, I almost dread watching the weather reports on the news.

@LadyDuck We will start into the heat tomorrow they are forecasting. I feel badly for those on your side of the world, so many days of such extreme heat. Summer hibernation days I like to call them.

@Juliaacv - The past days the temperature was very hot but it seems that the worst will be during the weekend. I do not plan to go out, may be early in the morning only if I need to buy something.

It's nice knowing kids still reads story books because here mostly I can no longer see kids have books in their hands and read it except when they are at school. Hope tornado is just a warning and won't occur. That's honestly scary though I mostly seen it in movies or news.

Our girls have a small library at home. They really love books. I do not know if there was a tornado, the city is large, but I do not see any downed trees in our neighbourhood.

Hopefully, the girls won’t need glasses, at least not for a very long time.

I have a sneaky suspicion that they know that something is up. When we went to Victoria in April, both Mom and Dad had to take 3 vacation days. Since Canada Day is mid week this year, he took the 2 days leading up to the holiday off for vacay days, while she is taking the final 2 days. They will be spending time out at their other grandmother's house. They won't be seeing Grandpa or I and they when they come back, they will be saying how much they missed us.

I've worn glasses all my life or rather since I was 2 yrs old and no matter where dad was stationed I never saw any of the other kids wearing them. I pray you did not get a tornado.

I have the same problem Pat has @Juliaacv I was told they put a patch over my good eye but dad removed it because I kept hitting my head on the coffee table. I'm not sure that would have worked anyway, in 1952 they didn't know as much as they do today.

You prayed hard because there is no indication from my window that there was any wind damages at all. I will have to watch the evening news tonight. Two of my three brothers wear glasses and began when they were young. Pat has a lazy eye and is essentially blind in that eye, the other one need corrective lenses.

We went in the later part of the afternoon, and they get tired by then and can be crancky but they were good which was nice. We were only in there a little while.

When I was a child, wearing glasses was a stigma; same for braces on your teeth. Nowadays they are practically a fashion statement and those who don't need any feel that they are missing out!

Two of my three brothers had to wear glasses. In my day they were not a fashion accessory either. How times change. I still do not look at them as anything other than something to aid in seeing properly.

Do you get many tornado warnings? I hope not. It must be quite frightening at times.

Yes, they have sirens that go off. We could hear the one closest to us. I do not think that we got anything in our immediate area as it was calm and still and there are no branches or anything down. We'll watch the evening news tonight to check because it was a widespread area and the sirens going off were near the edge of the city and the skies looked dark that way last evening.

I used to wear non prescription glasses as a kid and my parents would be so mad at me.They always say that it affects your vision..I don't know if that is true. About the tornado warning, I hope nothing happens. It could be scary though. My prayers is with you
