This heat is gross

I just got done making dinner in our kitchen, which only has a small portable AC that can't keep up, so I was sweating bullets by the time I got done. The real feel with humidity today is 104 degrees F. There are heat advisories out everywhere. My husband works in a factory without AC on the main floor; they have it in the break room, so he was super excited for break. We have window units in our house that often can't keep up when the heat gets this hot. Growing up, we didn't have AC, and I'm questioning how I used to go out to play in this.
Ohio summers have always been hot and humid; this isn't new, albeit it doesn't always get this hot, but we usually get a week or so during the summer when it gets this hot; sometimes we'll get multiple. When I was a kid, we didn't have air conditioning in schools, and I remember it got all hot and smelly during summer and early fall. They'd have one lone fan going and blowing hot air around. Our district finally got air conditioning in all of its buildings a few years ago. A lot of them are old buildings, and school used to start and end before the heat would set in for the season, so they didn't need it. Now, the school year is longer, and they actually have the technology to have air conditioning.
You'd think I'd be used to the heat by now, but I've never been a fan of the heat. I remember as a kid we had one room in our entire house that had an air conditioner, and it was my parents' room, so my brother and I used to go in there to sleep on the floor. It was the only way we could sleep sometimes. I will say if it's a really hot day, a day on the lake can cool it down quite a bit. A couple of summers ago, we packed up and went towards Lake Erie, and the temperature was over ten degrees cooler than where we live. We just sat by the lake and enjoyed the breeze. Honestly, a trip to the lake is starting to seem like a good idea. I know in the US, air conditioning is much more common than in European countries, but a lot of that is because of the extreme temperatures a lot of the US gets on a regular basis. In Ohio, we get the high and low temperatures. Hot and humid summers and cold and frigid winters.
If you are dealing with this heat right now, how are you surviving it? We have been living in our coolest room with the fans and AC on and not moving around too much. I'll definitely be taking a shower later with the amount I've been sweating. Yuck.

I am so glad we got a grant about three years ago that got us a new furnace and central a/c. I do not keep it super cold though. Just enough not to melt. We run fans and that makes me happy. My husband always feels cold, so I have to respect him. This reminds me that it is time to put in a fresh filter. When I am going to cook, or run the clothes dryer, I try to do it early in the day.

Our house doesn't get super cool since we don't have central air. We basically sit in front of fans and have the window unit going. With this kind of heat, we have to have our ACs running, or we'll sweat it out. I still need to get my laundry in, but have been avoiding it.

Oh yah, a plunge in a river, lake or pool would be nice when it's that hot. It gets so hot here in July and August that I can't breathe. It's like walking into an oven.
Thank goodness for the A/C.

In my case, the hot weather here feels the worst because it lasts so long. That’s why I appreciate the cold weather in your country, as we don’t get many long, chilly days here. Many foreigners who visit our place enjoy the hot climate, soaking up the sun, getting tanned, and loving the warmth. I guess they just can’t believe there’s a place that stays warm all year round.

@rsa101 Yeah, it's all well and good until you get into the negatives here. It gets to the point where the windchill is actually dangerous, and you can get frostbite in minutes if your skin is not covered properly. The heat wouldn't be as bad here if everywhere had air conditioning; most places do, but there are still some that don't, like my husband's factory job. They have it in the break room and offices, but where he works out on the floor, there is no AC, and yesterday it got really hot in there. I would love a nice happy medium all year. I'm not a fan of extreme heat or cold.

I have neither of those things; we have to wash our dishes by hand. The four things I miss about my old apartment is it had two bathrooms, a dishwasher, central air, and the complex had a pool. That said, we moved into a bigger house where we don't have to listen to our neighbors stomp around above us, and the other neighbor's children screaming in the hall, so you win some, and you lose some.
