They never knew they needed it.

When I visited New Zealand more than 20 years ago, I remember taking home a bottle of soda that I was told was exclusive to that country. I wanted something that was pretty much only found there, food wise. Turns out, it tasted terrible, but that’s besides the point. What’s my point? Having watched videos of people documenting their time in America due to the World Cup, people routinely said there was one food they couldn’t get in their country they wanted to take home with them. What was it? Ranch dressing! I remember a former frequent Mylotter from India commented that she read a lot of Americans mention Ranch dressing, but she couldn’t find it anywhere (no surprise). It does seem to be just an American thing. That is NOT to say everyone is going to like it, but SO many people do. It’s the most popular salad dressing in the U.S., and is also used as a dip. Which got me thinking about when you’ve traveled to another place, did you ever find something there you couldn’t get at home so you wanted to stock up on it?

I studied abroad for a year in England in college. I love Ribena and pear drops. Can't get them here.

@AmbiePam Ribena is a blackcurrant flavored concentrate that you dilute with water. It was a new flavor to me but I totally loved it. It isn't common in the US but very common in the UK. Pear drops are candies that well are flavored like pear. I love the flavor of pear but not the mushy texture. Pear drops do the trick. My cousin used to fly there often and kept me supplied but I don't think he's doing private piloting any longer.

Maybe it was just a different part of the United States and you found something in another state that you can’t get in your own?

I loved the potato chips in England. I brought several packages of them home.

Yes, some Cajun spices that I really liked, particularly the Jambalaya mix. Then with the list of the ingredients I created my own mix at home.

I never be outside of this country, but I do know that there is a soda that is only made in North Carolina. It's called Cheerwine. My boyfriend lives in NJ and he would take back cases of Cheerwine back up to NJ when he would go home. Now we don't drink soda anymore.

That sounds kind of cool. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it if I am ever back in North Carolina.

Ranch is available in Canada, too, but it's not one I voluntarily choose. I much prefer olive oil and apple cider vinegar, with parmesan cheese and garlic powder sprinkled on top.

When we went to Japan last year I had read so many things about Pocari sweat which sounds nasty but it is a rehydration drink & is sold everywhere in shops & from the thousands of street vending machines. It actually sells out quite quickly. It is a clear fluid still & not overly sweet & is very useful when you have been sweating a lot by upping your electrolytes. They do not sell it in the UK.

Just now
In the UK we hear Ranch dressing mentioned a lot ! You can buy it in supermarkets now but I’m not sure it tastes like ‘ proper ‘ American Ranch dressing.
