The internet can be so rude at times.

I’ve never been one to deny myself good food, even if it’s said to be bad for me, though I don’t over indulge. Lately however I weighed and measured myself and the internet declared me to be overweight. I was brought up to not comment on people’s weight, appearance, pimples etc so I was a bit put out being told that I’m overweight, though to be fair I did ask. I’ll not make that mistake again. And then maybe the scales are off - that must be it. Anyway I got an app (all the best people seem to have apps for everything so why not me?) and I record my food intake each day. All that I’ve changed is to cut out chocolate, fizzy drinks and potato chips which is no bother at all, but it seems that I’m ingesting fewer calories than the internet wants me to consume, not more. So what gives? My suspicion is that my problem is a lack of exercise. I’m doing only about 2000 steps a day so I can increase that, but maybe I’m just meant to be how I am. I’m certainly not going to deny myself when I go to Italy in September, nor on my trip to England next week - good food makes a holiday for me. If my diet is fine, what do you suggest I do to shed 10 pounds?

I think the exercise should work. I'm not trying to lose weight though but I know that people exercise to shed some weight

Is food in England as bland as I’ve heard a lot of English people proclaim? I wouldn’t deprive myself if I were going to Italy either.

@AmbiePam Great food is hard to come by in England, so we’ll be going to some better places in Manchester once or twice and we’ll mostly be eating at our daughter’s. Really looking forward to eating in some out of the way places in Italy, making the effort to get well away from the tourist trail.

I take exception to that! There is a long history of good food in England (and I'm not even English), it just went through a bad period after the war and somehow that seems to be what everyone remembers.

When we grow older our body slows down. And there is a lot more to losing than just eat less and exercise more. I wish you well.

I cut out most soda and most candy that I had been eating regularly. I did not start exercising more than I already was. Since November of 2025, I've dropped 60 pounds/27.2 kg... I still need to lose more weight, though. (I DO still have two sodas a month and have a small amount of candy. That's why I wrote I cut out MOST soda and candy.)

@xFiacre I agree. Some kind of treat once in a while makes the rest feel like it's worth it. Losing weight is hard, though. Thank you.

@daddyev We all need a little treat now and then. That’s a good weight loss. Well done.

Exercise like walking is a good start. Eat more protein. Drink more water

I think it's exercise that makes the difference but that's just my take on it.
