We sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge at 02:00 & headed to pier 27 where we would be berthed for the next two days. We had booked a trip out to Muir woods & afterwards Sausalito. We walked to the pick-up point & waited for the minibus to pick us up. We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge & made our way to Muir woods. Muir Woods is a National Monument run by the National Parks Foundation it is in Marin County. It was created a national monument in 1908. There are several walks ranging from short ones to Cathedral Grove where some of the tallest redwoods grow. It is a casual stroll to reach Cathedral Grove or if you had time there is a challenging multi-mile trek. It is roughly a mile trek back to the reception centre. There was a stream that followed the pathway to Cathedral grove. It is an interesting walk & at times was difficult to see the tops of the trees. We then left to drive to Sausalito which is quite near the Golden Gate Bridge on the opposite side of San Francisco which you can see across the Bay. It is a pretty little town with a population of just over 7,000. It was a fishing village & a mining town. There are many art galleries & boutique types of shops. We had a really pleasant day exploring both areas.

We have only visited San Francisco one time, many years ago and we really loved. We went to Sausalito, lovely place.

@garymarsh6 - I love more those little towns than the big cities.

I spent a week in Northern California one time and we saw many of the highlights including the Muir Woods. I consider it a peak life exoerience. Hopefully I will e able to see a redwood Grove again before I die.

A coworker years ago told us she couldn't get a good photo of those trees because she didn't have a wide angle lens. I'm glad your stay was nice.

I have never been to California, but our west coast I have. It really sounds like a magical time you spent there.

I liked San Francisco, it reminded me of Brighton! And those trees are amazing, there's nothing like that in Britain. John Muir (after whom the woods are named) was also such an interesting and influential man. We visited his birthplace in Scotland some years ago so it was fascinating to see both ends of the story as it were

I have always liked San Francisco. My first visit was over 40 years ago. Yes it has changed but it still amazes me. Back then we walked everywhere but now I cannot do the same amount of walking. but still get a buzz out of the city.
