The circus continues

The circus continues with the gas company. My mom finally got a bill that gave us a credit for the estimated readings we’ve been paying for I guess since 2025. Cancelled charges from Feb 2025 to June 2026. Not sure how accurate that amount is but the credit amount is almost $3000. To that they added last bill’s amount of $202 (I hadn’t payed yet), which was an estimate reading as well. And they added on $181, charges for Feb 2025 to May 2025. The final credit balance is around $2538. With this new bill and a huge credit I hope that means from now on readings will be actual. But who knows… I removed the Family Energy esco (thirty party supplier) a while back and for whatever reason they put us back on it. I have to call the gas company and ask them why they put us back on it and have them take it off. I want supply to come directly from the gas company; no third party suppliers. I also want to know if readings will be accurate from now on. No reason for them not to be.

Yeah, good luck with that. Once companies get your information, it's hard to cancel them. Somehow they keep sending you bills anyway. We're paid way in advance for our electric and gas but still get bills saying we owe them money even though they are also showing the credit to our billing accounts. Pretty told me to just let her worry about the bills so I've stopped paying attention although I still get notified on my phone when she pays them anyway.

I should’ve asked the rep when they will start doing actual readings already…

@lovebuglena It would be nice if the rep actually knew that.

I would like to think the amount credited is correct, but maybe it’s not. And I bet if I ask how they came up with that credit amount they won’t be able to really answer that. We did have Family Energy back in 2025 because they screwed up so perhaps when making adjustments they took that into account and why they added it back on but it shouldn’t be there.

@celticeagle The rep I talked with removed the esco but she said it may still appear on the next bill.

They still have not obtained an accurate reading, so I doubt the adjustment is final. Once they get an actual reading, I bet the credit maybe higher.

I hadn't heard about the use of third party suppliers before

Instead of the gas company you use for supplying the gas you can choose another company to supply the gas. Sometimes this can save you money but not always.

What is a "third party supplier"?

Instead of having your gas company deliver and supply the gas you can choose another company to supply it. That’s called an esco. Don’t remember what it stands for. I called it third party supplier here because it’s a supplier other than the gas company that delivers the gas but maybe that is not correct to call it that.
