A Luxor cat finds his own home / myLot

When we were in Luxor, Egypt several decades ago, we visited the veterinary hospital there, which is run by the British charity, Animal Care in Egypt (ACE). Animals in Luxor mostly have a terrible life and my heart bled for the pitifully poor horses and donkeys that were beasts of burden there. Slowly the vets at ACE are educating the locals in better management of their animals. They give out free padded nosebands and advise on better ways to harness and manage the equines which are sometimes expected to pull very heavy loads. The residents there are very fond of their pet cats and dogs and ACE does free sterilisation operations for pets. I loved today’s FB entry and I’ll quote it parts of it: This neglected and injured male cat was found by a foreign resident living in Luxor. ... The poor cat had a nasty wound on his right front leg. Despite his ordeal the cat is a friendly chap and has decided that the lady who found him will now be his person. He has moved in with her. Isn’t that just a beautiful way of explaining the situation? The photo is mine of my sister's kitten which is now well and truly a very mature cat.

They don't charge at all which means people do bring their animals there to get free treatment and while they're there, they get some good information as well.

I wouldn't ride in the horse-drawn carts. I thought I'd save the horses that little bit of work. They were all painfully thin.

That's a good news story for sure...the cat could tell the lady would look after them . Animals know these things .

The care is free to all locals and they're gradually trying to educate the people. Some of it is ignorance although they can seem very uncaring.

I like that - SNAP. Unfortunately it's seems against their religion (the residents I mean) to neuter stallions and jack donkeys. I don't know why they'll do cats and dogs but not equines.

My neighbor works at the Denver Animal Shelter. He does a lot of outreach for not only education but for vaccinations, spay and neuter, and grooming. Keeps him busy. I'm glad the cat is okay.

There were photos of the cat. It was the scruffiest, ugliest cat you could imagine but it's good it's found a home. That would be good work your friend is doing. There is a great need for such work everywhere.
