The once-impressive building looks out of place now

The photo was taken from the grounds of the art gallery in Perth, Western Australia. I haven’t researched it but it’s obviously a heritage building which is dwarfed by the much bigger buildings around it. Maybe the building to the right is also one which has been left alone. It all looks a bit strange really as, to the left, there were some brick columns which looked like they might have been the façade of something older. The red brick building would have been quite grand in its day but it’s look a bit out-of-place now.

The building does look out of place.

Now there's a land developer that cared nothing about the new building fitting in with the neighborhood!

There is a new development behind us. All the trees and bush has just been bull-dozed and flattened. They have no thought for anything but making money.

@teamfreak16 Where we are was a similar site once. Now it's all 'nice' and pretty characterless.

@JudyEv - It's sad. Then the people that move into developed areas start complaining about the stuff already there.

Yes, it really doesn't fit in with what is around it.

I agree that it looks out of place, but I think it has more "personality" than those modern buildings, all glass, all identical.

I think it has much more character too. It would have been much admired in its heyday.

@JudyEv - I agree, I remember when in Monte Carlo they started to destroy the old "Belle Epoque" buildings to build those horrible new buildings. I think that Monte Carlo lost its identity. Not to mention that it became hotter because the tall buildings prevented the air from the sea to come into the upper part of the city.

The same thing is happening in India. Old heritage buildings like the old parliament of India has been shifted to another building.

oh that is true. I am pretty sure that structure was a beauty years ago but now with all those massive buildings, it looks too small

I've seen a few buildings like that in cities in various countries. You feel a bit sorry for them with the huge new edifices crowding around like that.

Yes, a bit sad that it is dwarfed by modern designs. A bit of sensitivity is needed in cases like this

I like that they keep it, though. A little piece of history.
