Would you like to attend an awards show?

If you would like to attend an awards show, which would you choose? Would it be The Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs…? For me, it would be The ESPYs, which aired last night. It brings together the sports world and entertainment world, and you know how much I love sports. While they do awards like best team, they also do awards such as Perseverance Award, which Jim Abbott won last night. If you aren’t familiar with him, he is a former pitcher (baseball) who played in the major leagues with only one hand. One hand! He played for years, and was actually good! I love awards like those. I’m guessing most of you wouldn’t go to any. Which would you choose, if you are one who would?

The only one I think I would like to attend is the American Music Awards of the Grammys and get to site between Rigo Starr and Mick Jagger

If I could go back and do an awards show when I was a kid, I would have done the Kids' Choice Awards. Award shows seem so boring now. What I'd give to be a kid again and get to see my favorite celebrities get slimed in real time. As an adult, if I had to choose, I'd probably say the Oscars. I love movies. I'm not a sports person. I am my family's go-to movie and TV show encyclopedia. I get phone calls on the regular from my mom asking me, "Who was that guy in that movie?" "what movie mom? What guy?" I then get to decode. I definitely do better with old movies than newer ones, though. I think our interests definitely give a glimpse into parts of who we are. There are so many different awards shows, so I'm kind of curious if there are ones I don't know about that I'd like more. I wouldn't mind the Emmys either. I remember when they used to have the TV Land awards, I'd have liked those too.

@AmbiePam I actually don't remember those. There have been so many different awards shows, and I can't remember them all.

No interest, I can watch them on TV. Were the ESPY's any good? I opted for a scripted drama.

I didn’t watch the whole thing, but I liked a lot of the winners like Alyssa Liu, the gold medal ice skater in the Olympics, and Fernando Mendoza of Indiana University. Then they honored this rescue swimmer which was really cool. The comedian host was pretty good too. I’d never go to one because I wouldn’t fit in, but I’d love to see all those sports stars.

I actually HAVE attended an awards show: the 2001 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards show. IBMA had its annual convention, awards show, and “World of Bluegrass” festival here in Louisville for a number of years, and I always volunteered to work at it. It was hilarious because Marty Stuart was the host. After Dolly Parton performed, he tried three times to say “bluegrass music” and it came out “blue *ss music.” We roared, and he said, “What color was that dress Dolly was wearing?” (Yes, she was wearing a blue dress.) It was cool because Dudley Connell won male vocalist of the year that year, and he began his acceptance speech by saying, “I was beginning to feel like the Susan Lucci of bluegrass.”

Honestly...no. I have never even thought of the idea of going to a big awards show. The idiotic fanfare of the Oscars, Emmy's and Golden Globes, etc. have turned me off from all of those type of shows. When I read of a music artist I enjoy getting an award I have watched that a time or two. Sports? If my kids or grands are playing, I'm there. I don't follow pro sports hardly ever. Just local sports and sometimes son and I will watch the Fighting Illini play basketball but not live.

@AmbiePam I know many people watch them. I have heard that beauty pageants of all sorts are not nearly as popular as they used to be,either.

Not a huge award show fan--most of the movies I'd never seen or wouldn't care to have seen, and most of the actors/actresses I've never heard of. I think the last time I watched an awards show was when the Lord of the Rings trilogy movies won darn near everything.

I would probably pick the Emmys so i could see all my favorite people from General Hospital and other favorite tv shows. I'm not all that familiar with the name Jim Abbott but when you said he only had one hand I do remember how incredible his pitching was/is
