I'm getting my own classroom again!

There are all sorts of things that cause stress as a teacher but not having your own classroom and having to "float" is up at the top of the list. When you are a brand new teacher it is kind of expected but as you work your way up in seniority and people retire it is normal for people to eventually get a home base. I did my time floating, then got a room, then got into a fight with a younger guy who liked to play "the game" so I was back to floating. I finally got a room several years ago but I was struggling to get up and down the stairs with my balance issues and weakness in general so I asked to be moved downstairs. That put me back to floating back and forth between 2 classrooms that luckily were across the hall from each other. One of the teachers was very chill but the other guy has massive OCD and it was another form of stress to make sure everything was "perfect" before I rushed to another room. (Think of the movie Sleeping With the Enemy) Yesterday I received a call from the assistant principal who will be the new head building principal asking if I would take a classroom on the 2nd floor. It is on the other side of the building but in what is called "the fun wing". I have mostly good days and a few bad but I agreed to it. The vibe over there is much more chill, my good friend will be right across from me, and I'll have my own space. Not really sure why they are moving the teacher that was in the room out of there but whatever. I'll have a desk again. I'll be able to have my plants and pictures around the room. I have a policy that I don't return to school until the 1st day we have to go but the VP asked me to show up next week to mark my stuff that needs to be moved upstairs. Gladly! So it is a relief that I won't have to keep running around all day. I'm going to ask for a bathroom duty in the same wing so I don't have to keep going up and down the stairs. That's kind of a ballsy move but they know that I've been having mobility issues. We shall see. Stay tuned!

That’s fantastic! Just reading about the OCD guy was stressful so I can’t imagine how bad it was to actually be the one to share with him. And how great that you get to be near your work bestie. That’s amazing.

I'm glad you're getting your own classroom again but wished is was all downstairs. Are you still having problems with sciatica? Mine disappeared three or so weeks after it appeared and hasn't made a comeback. I hope everything goes well for you this year!

I hope they help out as regards bathroom duty. And I'm sure it will be very nice to have your own classroom again.

It is nice to have your own space. I like to have plants and my beach pictures around. Somehow it relaxes me.

@NJChicaa I can believe that. A little place more or less of your own away from home.
