I'm sitting here enjoying my coffee, chatting on myLot and the game show Price Is Right is on in the background.
It caught my attention when an electric skateboard came up as a prize for $2000! Say what!! $2000 for a skateboard? well it did come with a helmet and it can go up to 35mph.
Not only did the cost shock me but it made me wonder why someone would need/want a skateboard that goes that fast and where in the world would they ride it? At a local park maybe but certainly not wise to ride on a sidewalk or street.
The main road outside my community has a 35mph limit for cars!
Guess I'm just an old fuddy duddy

I have seen some of those fast ones on sidewalks before. They better wear kneepads along with a helmet.

Going that fast sounds so dangerous to me for both the rider and anyone who might be on the sidewalk and in the way.

Maybe as I am getting older, items like an electric skateboard is not for me to rake a ride on.

Without perfect balance a skateboard is pretty dangerous even if it's not electric. I wonder if they've ever done statistics on how many broken bones resulted from falling off a skateboard.

There are just things that are so pricey that we would never understand why!
The more costly it is, the most young people want it these days.

I certainly agree that those electric bikes, scooters and skateboards are very pricey but when it's popular the young people want it.

A good many of the prizes on the Price is Right often made me think what in the world are they going to do with that but I do nejoy watching the episodes,

I always wonder about the same thing with some of the prizes they win. But I'm a fan of the show and sometimes surprise myself that I come so close to the actual price.

These things are dangerous
If they go that fast here they have to be registered as motor vehicles like cars and motorbike
So the owners have to pay road tax, get a registration plate and get insurance
So if they are road legal fine

Here we're starting to require registration and a license to operate an electric bike since I guess so many are being ridden on streets and highways. Having that already a law there is smart.

It is and it isn't.
Most of the yobs who use them do so illegally
And a lot of police time is spent chasing them
It's not just the bikes
Some of these escooters need to be regulated as well but there is a blanket ban on using them on the roads.
So they use them in pavements instead creating havoc for pedestrians

I'm sure they range in price and what I saw was probably the high end.. What surprises me more is that everything is becoming electric so no old fashioned pedaling a bike or pushing a scooter or skateboard yourself.

@Marilynda1225 i was content when police here was punishing some drivers on their electric scooters but, they still do things like, driving when pedestrians are.

Mentally, I always deduct around a third of the price because I assume the price is jacked up having filmed in California. I remember having a dish in California for $20 in California in November back when we went to Disneyland. The same dish at the same restaurant in California that cost $20 there, only cost $14 here. Everything is just so expensive in California, Disneyland or not.

There is a huge difference of opinion here in our city questioning if those scooters, because of their speed, should be allowed on the sidewalks or in the bike lane. Helmets are mandatory.
But even the non-electric scooters are expensive, as are helmets.
The twins each have one and they are pricey.
They needed new helmets, and after getting those, they decided that they no longer wanted to ride their scoooters.
I doubt that the helmets will fit come skating season, but if they do, they can use them then.

My grandkids are too old now for those scooters and skateboards but my oldest grandson was an avid skateboarder. He did really well but his skateboard wasn't electric. It could only go as fast as he could maneuver it.
Everything is so pricey these days and like your twins they outgrow helmets, etc and sometimes lose interest in stuff.
It would be nice if the helmets still fit them when skating season comes around.

I don't' know how anyone could keep their balance on a skateboard going that fast. Just sounds so dangerous to me

That definitely would have caught my attention too! Two thousand dollars for a skateboard is hard to wrap my head around.
I know electric skateboards have become more advanced, but one that can reach 35 mph seems more like a small vehicle than a skateboard. At that speed, even with a helmet, one bad bump or unexpected obstacle could end very badly.
