How do you handle

July 28, 2026 6:19pm CST
How do you handle when someone asks you if you think they look their age? It's a difficult one, isn't it? I tend to be as honest as I can be because why should I say something totally different to what I really think How about the " do you think I am fat?" Question sometimes people ask you? Honesty is the best policy If it's online I show Yvonne a picture of the chap or chapess before I commit to giving an answer So how do you handle these difficult questions?

When I know the answer would offend somebody, I just don't say anything and just give them a smile.

@Ineeddentures I would just definitely smile. I think that person should look in the mirror before asking such a question. And why would that person ask me such a thing when it's too obvious. So that person must be joking.

@toniganzon You would have thought so Unless it's a case of denial

Here's the thing If someone who weighs say 200lbs and is 5ft 1 inch tall asked you if you think they are fat Why would you give them a smile lol That's like taking the piss isn't it? I would say , yes, you are fat. And if they are offended I would be more offended that they asked men in the first place if they didn't want the truth

A lot of the time I probably just wouldn't answer. Hope someone else has a better answer!

It's a difficult one and I find rude those who asks. Anyway, if someone asks it's only because they want to hear "you look younger", so go for it.

@Ineeddentures - It's hard to tell those people that they do not look younger if they are convinced that they really look younger. They would think you are envious and that is why you lie.

@LadyDuck Aye well there is one lady who I think is delusional about how young she thinks she looks but I won't be the one to tell her. I know Yvonne is a lot older than her and looks a lot younger than her

I will not tell anyone what they want to hear. Unless of course it's true But what about the person who proclaims they look younger for the age they are, but really don't. Would you be tempted to say anything if not asked

Perhaps it’s best not to say anything because some people don’t like honesty and they’ll get offended or hurt.

@Ineeddentures maybe try to be honest, but in a less harsh way. What would you do if someone asked you how something they made tastes? Would you be honest then?
5h
@lovebuglena If it tasted good I would tell them If it didn't and I didn't like it , I would tell them Totally honest when it comes to food

I try to be as honest as possible. Most like that though a few tend to get offended by reality.

@Ineeddentures I commented just now on another post "Heads I win, tails you lose". It is lose-lose, situation to try to please the other! Yes, we may please them but the end result is we end up telling a lie against our conscience.

So one time this lady neighbour of mine asked if I thought that she was fat I looked at her and said " yes, you are fat, morbidly obese" She burst out crying and called me names So I asked her if she wanted me to tell her lies And she said yes And i couldn't do that

I probably answered, I don't think so. How old are you? As to being fat. I usually answered such... Not as fat as my siblings. I don't know that always comes naturally to me without thinking.

I think you try to be diplomatic too much then. Honesty is better than diplomacy If they look older tell them they have a " well lived in face" And if they are fat just tell them.
