Renewing Moms tv license......

Well,. at the age of 88 I think that my Mom should be getting her TV license for free.....indeed there was a time when you didn't have to pay if you were over 75 ( I think it was 75 )....
Now though it is different.... unless you are on benefits you have to pay what ever your age ...
( don't get me started on benefits ! )
So, as usual it has gone up, from £174.50 to £180 this year.
She does watch tv every day and over the space of a year I guess its not much really .
I still think it should be free.....
What do you think ?

It would really be nice if certain things were free or even much lower in price once we get to senior citizen status. Although i doesn't sound like much of a jump in price it's just harder to stretch a budget when everything keeps going up.

No, it’s not a huge jump in price And over a year it’s still very much worth it. But everything is going up like that all the time ….except her pension money !

I never heard of a TV license. I guess you mean something like cable TV, and getting it for free.

No that’s different.
Here we need a license to watch certain channels ….BBC channels ….

Never heard of a tv license at all and that we have to pay for it.
WE have free tv channels we can watch and that's what older people usually do here.
As an option we also have cable tv, which people nowadays hardly pay for because of the streaming channels.
WE only pay for subscription on streaming channels if we want to.

Is it ‘license’ or ‘licence’? If in doubt, ask James Bond. 
Lots of people have stopped paying the tv licence. Mainly the young, who aren’t bother about watching live tv. The BBC are now desperately trying you reduce their enormous costs, by cancelling a lot of programmes and getting rid of high paid presenters. Gary Lineker, for example, was on over £1m for hosting Match of the Day. A crazy amount of money. The BBC needs a major funding reform or it will go bust. I don’t know how much David Attenborough gets paid, or how much longer he’s going to present his wildlife shows, but once he goes, I might cancel my licence, and get my kicks here.

Yeah, licence ……
My Mom would be way too worried if she didn’t pay hers…and she is an age whereby she watches a lot of telly, including BBC ….

We don't have to licence our TVs here. Some houses would have three or four but perhaps one licence covers all those in one house. I think there would be an uproar if they tried to bring back licensing.
