Apparently some people are still going to steakhouses

Well, if your pockets are deep enough..or for a special occasion I guess some don't mind spending the money. I was reading on FB a couple of acquaintances of mine and their spouses went to a well known (Although I had never heard of it, steakhouse in the Culpepper area.) Online it said the average prices were 62 per steak potato and vegetable dinner..and that probably doesn't include taxes and tip. Add a drink or two or dessert and you are probably looking at 150 dollars per couple. Certainly more than I would pay for dinner..however, their lunch menu could conceivably be doable. I hope they enjoyed it, it was cheeky of me, but I couldn't resist asking if they took out a second mortgage to pay for it..however, I think they could afford it relatively comfortably. The one guy loves to eat and goes out to eat a lot so he is probably used to paying a bundle.

Steaks are expensive here in the UK too. I can’t remember the last time I ate one at a restaurant. I used to complain that they never cook it right anyway, so it’s better that it is too expensive. Saves a lot of grief. I don’t eat steak at home. Although the chef is much better, I still can’t justify taking out a mortgage just for one meal. I tend to stick to mince or stewing meat that needs a long slow cook to be edible. Thank heavens for the slow cooker!

I just saw Rib eye at the store for 10.99 a pound. That isn't too bad, but I don't know how big the packs are

@snowy22315 The cheapest in the Tesco supermarket is £13 a pound, which is roughly $17.50 a pound. Much more expensive over here. Too much for me. Mince/ground beef is around a fiver. Much cheaper and more versatile.

Some places are steak and seafood houses. The one we went to last weekend where I had chicken and friend had salmon markets that way. I wasn't about to get a steak, I'll tell you that!

The Cattlemen Steakhouse I once went to served salmon along with steak but I wasn't impressed, they don't really know how to do salmon properly but then their speciality is beef so theres that@snowy22315

My understanding is that rich guys still like steak. 
Personally, I miss the Denver bars that used to do $5.95 steak dinner specials on Tuesday nights. Granted, they weren't steakhouse-quality, but it was a great deal. I still like Texas Roadhouse on occasion. It's affordable.

I haven't been there in a long time. I am guessing steak isn't affordable anywhere right now..The best bet is probably to make it at home if you want steak..even then the steaks will be about 20 bucks unless you stumble upon a deal.

It’s just one meal for two people, this beef/eating out thing has reached the ridiculous point. Maybe $125 for two steak dinners, plus anything to drink, and tax and tip. Basically at least $150. That’s more than I am currently spending to feed two people at home for a week. Yes, I cook everything from scratch,and no, I don’t buy steak. We buy very little red meat at all, if any. Our meals are fairly well balanced and they taste good. I know some people have the money to pay those prices, but most people I know just either can’t, or won’t.
My best friend and I were chatting a bit yesterday and the subject of steak came up. Neither of us have had steak in over a year or more. The price is just beyond ridiculous.

I have stumbled upon some small steaks marked down here and there that weren't too bad, but generally the prices of them are insane.

That is too rich for my blood.
We rarely eat out the past few years, because we buy our meat from the butcher at a price that is so reasonable, we cannot afford to keep the deep freezer completely stocked plus eat out.
And I know how to take a cheaper cut of steak and prepare it well enough that you'd never know it was a cheap cut, most restaurants cannot/do not do that.

Must be nice. I could dine some expensive placed for free mystery shopping, but you always have to be aware of the risk, your report might not be accepted, and then you are out the money. I have gone to moderately priced places a few times..that way, but balk at pricey ones.

I have never had a steak though! I am kind of on the edge of being a vegetarian now. However, 150 dollars is a crazy amount.
