A storm I almost forgot

When it comes to visibility I've been through much worse sand stomes than this one. In 1973 I was in a car no A/C it was hot outside and that sand storm was so bad I was traveling less than 5mph because I couldn't see very much in front of me plus the 18 wheeler that had passed me before the storm hit was blown over and I almost didn't see it. Back then I didn't even have a camara so I couldn't have gotten a shot of that. The worse part of either blizzards or sand storms is if you get stuck in a mobile home with no heat or A/C depending. I would imagine that breathing wouldn't be as hard in icy cold homes as it is in stiffling hot homes.

I have never suffered a blizzard @Juliaacv but I have suffered summer sand storms with no A/C in a mobile home and because of the sandstorm I couldn't open any windows so it got pretty hard to breath in the stiffling heat. When it's 35c and 38c and it's so dry you need to keep drinking water and one of those sand storms hits with it's hot winds it gets really hard to breath.

@rebelann We've been fortunate in the fact that we have never lost our power during a blizzard. I remember once my grandparents lost theirs and they packed up and somehow made it to our place, although it was a very dangerous drive and took them about an hour. They forgot their parakeets at home, and when my Dad drove my grandfather back, the following day to get some more essentials, they brought the birds, in their cages, and once they warmed up, they were fne, but had they not gone they would have perished. Our farm was about half way from a small town to a larger one. A group of 3 men, on the way home from the larger city after their shift ended at the factory, ended up in the ditch. They walked to our place, as there were outbuildings and they knew that a farmer would have a tractor that could pull their vehicle out of the ditch, came to the house. We did not know them, and my Dad got their vehicle out, but they were too afraid to continue due to the visibility. My Dad invited them into the house, they were so cold and their faces and beards covered with snow, he got out a bottle of Canadian rye whiskey to thaw them out. They stayed with us that night and the following day they were able to leave just before it got dark. They were a long time plowing out the roads from that storm.

I know what you mean but honestly I don't want to be in any kind of storm, blizzards, hurricanes, typhoons and sand storms are never any good to be in.

I was and if a person has to drive in it then it can be dangerous, I am so glad I have no reason to drive in that kind of weather.

@rebelann - I am getting a driver license, but I will only drive with good weather conditions.

I wouldn't want either of them. Both have their dark sides.

I agree with you, all storms are a pain but I do love rain now and then.

@rebelann I like some rain since it calms down the excessive heat outside.

True, I just hope we don't get these in the hot summer months as it is bad enough when we get them in cooler weather.

I hate power outages. I just wish there wouldn't be these kinds of storms, but I suppose that's how mother nature gets even with us.

That's the first time I've heard anyone use Exciting for a blizzard .... wouldn't use that word for sand storms either.

Most people haven't, I wish I didn't have to be in one but it's part of desert living, I just thank heavens they don't occur too often.

They are nasty storms to be sure.
