Do you know what’s roasting?

Yep, that’s a whole pig - lechon. Freshly roasted in the backyard for my niece’s 6th birthday. She’s a pandemic baby, and I honestly didn’t want to go to her birthday. But she specifically asked me to come… so here I am, eating lechon. Seriously, though, can you believe it’s been 6 years since the COVID days? What were you doing back then? Where were you in life when this little pandemic baby was born? And have you ever tried lechon?

Pig-on-a-spit - what's not to like. Yes, it's hard to believe the pandemic was so long ago.

I have tried lechon in Portugal, they roast smaller pigs there, my Mom and I tried and we liked. During COVID we lived in Switzerland, it was a difficult moment, but at least we were together and now I am alone. I miss my husband.

@sol_cee - I am living a very hard moment. I really miss my husband and I have so much to do now, all the paperwork that follows the loss of a family member. I am grateful to myLot members who are supporting me.

I wonder if the lechon in Portugal tastes similar to ours in the Philippines. Anna-san, what happened to your husband, if you don’t mind me asking

@LadyDuck Oh Anna-san, I’m so very sorry. I had no idea it was so recent. I remember your love story and how much you loved your husband. You must be going through such a painful time. My heart goes out to you

I have, or at least the American version of it. In North Carolina, we have what is called a "pig picking" - a pig is roasted whole and then people will go up and pick meat off the body with forks to fill their plates.

@Ineeddentures Sounds like you really made the most of it! But wait, were you actually allowed to host parties during the pandemic? I thought gatherings weren’t allowed

@sol_cee Well it did and it didn't Despite travel bans and social distancing and bubbles and masks etc etc Yvonne and I had great fun on the bikes The roads were quiet We went on lots of journeys. We also have a large garden and we hosted quite a few parties lol And carried on pretty much as normal as we just did what we normally did and still do

@sol_cee I was just thinking about COVID and the year it happened. I looked at the present year and I'm like, it's been 6 years already

The COVID days sure were awful. I was blessed not to be a worrier, so while I dutifully followed the mask rules, I never really worried about getting it. Now, early on my dad got it, and it was bad, but he recovered, and the second time he got it years later it hardly bothered him. I think we made some massive mistakes here with keeping schools closed so long, but I guess everyone did the best they could. I’m so glad you went to your niece’s birthday party. It must have meant a lot to her.
